Some OTHER Race

Categorized under Frontera , Hipnotismo | Tags:

Even though Latinos (or "Hispanics" if you like government-invented words) made up of over one third of the population growth last year, we are still counted in the "Some Other Race" catch-all category; not quite earning enough importance to warrant our own major category in the "five Office of Management and Budget race categories," which are "White, Black (or African American), Asian, American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN), and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHPI)."

Right. Again, in North America, Latinos are counted under "Some Other Race"—despite the fact that right here in the US, we "remained the largest minority group at 42.7 million, and were the fastest growing group from 2004 to 2005, with a 3.3 percent increase." So...why lump Latinos into "Some Other Race"? Am I missing some obscure (or obvious) logic?

Actually, according to the US Census Bureau (or rather to WikiPedia's listing on the US Census Bureau), I am technically a member of "the race in combination population." Being composed of multiple races. (Mexican, German, Russian, Romanian). How's that for a box in which to jumpeth? The Race in Combination Population. Foolishly Striving for Peaceful Assimilation in the Grip of a Danjus Nation.
