Surviving the Race War, Pt. II

I am, as you know, looking forward to all the helpful dialogue the new Survivor Race War will bring to bars and livingrooms around the country. I am sure that the makers of the show are proud that they are advancing intelligent and sensitive discussion amongst the well-educated, thoughtful, nuanced, and sensitive TV-heads throughout the nation. What a contribution to today's racial "tensions" and parking lot "disagreements."

I think it was said very well over at Latina Lista:

...Because the minute it was announced that the game was going to be played along racial lines, this Survivor ceased being an innocent show to chronicle who can outwit Mother Nature and CBS intervention and instead became a contest focused on which race is superior."

—Latina Lista

I think that Marisa gives more credit to CBS and television in general than I might, in that the show was ever meant to be (or was) "innocent," but then again, I have worked a tiny bit in TV, and I have been in the green room and heard the prepping that people get and the general intent of TV producers is about as "innocent" as the cluster bombs that Israel used in their recent bombing of Lebanon.

But her main point is a crucial one. This show cannot be said to be doing anything but purposely race-baiting, purposely stoking racist thought in order to cash in on ratings. And I reiterate, if this is the culture that Neo-Nativists are worried about losing, then they really worry without merit. The world is better off without this type of divisive "entertainment."

And um....that ship in the background looks a bit familiar, no? But you know TV people. They always throw in graphics that do not represent anything, and are mostly accidental.
