"There are no perfect elections," Judge Alfonsina Berta Navarro Hidalgo said.
Sadly, we know this all too well.

Yeah. Imperfect. That's one way of putting it. Quite the polite way, I'd say.

After two hi-jacking of our own elections, it looks like they have learned how to frame the issue very well. Looks like Dick Morris is earning his keep. Rat bastard.

At this point we can only hope that Obrador means every word he has been saying. Some things are more important than the semblance of order. Like Truth, and justice for the people. Like staving off the entrenchment of a vampirical and deceptive government. It breaks my heart to see Calderón's smarmy mug, to think he may just settle in and reinforce the idea of fake elections in Mexico. He is un pinche fraude, and a sneering rapist of the soul of the land he claims to want to govern and protect.

I think we want to see this election in terms of U.S. politics a little too much. If there's a comparison, it's to the 1988 Mexican Election, which Cuauhtemoc Cardenas was winning until a "mysterious" system crash (later admitted by then ex-President Miguel de la Madrid was no accident).
Within the very narrow parameters of the TEJPF ruling, Calderón was the winner. Lopez Obrador, like Cardenas in 1988, is engaging in brinkmanship -- excuse the phrase, but it's a "Mexican standoff"... (Fox did the same thing when he was cheated out of the Guanjuanto governorship, too). It's SOP for Mexican politics. Eventually, a compromise will be worked out (I expect some changes in the electin law, too) -- and apparently, is already in progress. If nothing else, the PRD's push for senior citizen benfits and some better social security system will go through.
Calderón is already meeting with the non-PRD opposition parties, and agreeing to push their agendas. He'll have to push a good part of the PRD agenda, though he's already signed off on some of the "Por el bien de todos" coalition points.
Calderón might not be as aweful as we think. His dad was a PAN founder, but quit the party because it was drifting too far to the right.

I do, of course see all these events in terms of American politics, I'll admit that right up front. I have far more experience, and knowledge of same.
From what I've read—and I don't just read one or two sources, I read all I can find, pretty much—I personally feel Calderón stole the elections, and that makes him "awful" enough to me. Whether or not Lopez Obrador is making a show of it. I hope he does. He camps out with these people, and I feel he cares about them. If he doesn't, I'll see it in time. But it does me better to believe someone cares for all those poor people. I'm getting depressed enough by the depravity and lack of soul in the world. Allow me this.
...and are you getting back at for asking you about the Vicente Fox spelling? ;)

I think I'm turning Mexican, I think I'm turning Mexican... I really think so...
My former Swedish landlady was appalled that I tried her Boef Lindström with tortillas and salsa
My Mexican-American housemate caught me ironing my underwear the other afternoon.
I’ve started having uncharitable thoughts towards Argentineans.
I instinctively sit in the shade.
I buy gel … and use it.
I tell gringos to slow down.
I eat more than my recommended daily requirement of vitamin “T” (tacos, tamales, tortillas, tortas).
I buy them on the street.
I not only can say “Cuauhtémoc” without hesitating, I think it’s a perfectly normal given name, along with Xochitl, Tonatihu and Nezahualcoyotl. I know a guy named Popocatepl, too.
I yell “¡Ai! ¡Ai!” during sex.

But do you prefer the wiring that leads to your tiny fridge exposed, or is just that way because of the concrete walls?
