Tail Between His Legs, Fox Flees the Stage

AND JUST WHEN YOU ARE FEELING overwhelmed by the murder of democracy; just when you feel you cannot take the tide of bad news another minute; just when you feel that all the crooks are getting away with a grin and a line so thin that the children can read through the predictable spin, there comes a moment that refreshes your spirit and reminds you why the Mexican people are an admirable people.

We are a people who fight, who do not sit down and (See Gore vs. Bush, 2000) let injustice steamroll over us. Of this, I am very proud. I feel this same fire animates mi corazon y mis manos, and connects me to all of la raza. (See pro-immigrant demonstrations). Even miles and miles away, and despite the constant hypnotism and control meted out upon those of us here in the States. And while these moments in Mexico's political process hardly make up for the crimes and miscarriages of justice right here in America, it is good to feel proud of tu raza, especially in the midst of all of today's hating on Mexicanos. And the positive memes about the majority of Mexicanos must continue on this inspiring note, as well as serve as an inspiration to all of us here in a land that once claimed justice and liberty as a birthright for every citizen.

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 1 — Leftist lawmakers who have charged that fraud marred the presidential election in July staged a protest inside Congress that prevented President Vicente Fox from making his final state of the union speech to lawmakers on Friday, ending a tense day of political brinksmanship here.

This is the first time in Mexican history that the President of Mexico has been prevented from delivering this speech.

And so, Vicente Fox might cozy up to his Washington amigos—our very own American ladrones; Fox may help Calderón steal the election and he may think that he can just go on with business as usual, but tonight, when he tried to make his graceful exit, and some pathetic phony state of the union speech, he found that he, himself, has forgotten who the Mexican people are. Perhaps he has been looking at George too long. Perhaps he is wanting to be part of the big boys club so bad, he has lost his mind. It reminds me of both his and Calderón's eagerness to make terrible compromises, wherein they show that they have already lost their hearts. They want Mexico to be a rich country like their Northern neighbor so bad, they are makign deals with the Devil; they are willing to marginalize a huge part of the country, relegate the poor to an even poorer status, and perpetuate and accentuate the same kind of screaming divisions in caste and living conditions and treatment that we have here in the USA.

This is a mistake, and perhaps—if tonight and all the faithful camped out in the Zócalo are any indication—one that may just rise up to grab them by the neck.

¡Viva la Revolución!
