addendum

Categorized under Palabras | Tags:

img i'll fix this properly later with an edit, but in regard to the last post, i have to add that it's hardly fair for me to wrap the dreams and deeds of mi antepasados, my ancestors, my family, in my own worldview. maybe it should be two different posts. they did the things they dreamed, and it is not for me to diminish it by such juxtaposition. i'm just pissed off as of late, a bit disenchanted with what i've seen opening my eyes more and more, a continuation of a long habit of checking things out, it began as soon as i could start looking around, and my story is my own. perhaps my ability to complain about the top to bottom of my country's situation, or be idealistic about it is a result of relative comfort or ability to collect information or attend to the lower parts of the heirarchy of needs first. but i still see what i see. i don't want to disrespect the views or achievements of others, though. in any way.

*time posted actually 15:43:05 (3:43 pm). edited to 12 to make the last post appar on top of the blog main page, rather than its addendum.

No, no! You're not being disrespctful. It is your story. The nightmare we currently inhabit doesn't diminish real achievement - today's or yesterday's. & it's certainly not disrespectful to acknowledge, as I read you doing in that piece, the dreams of earlier days betrayed

I think Arcturus has the right idea about the dreams of earlier days betrayed. I don't know how anyone watching the constitution being shredded can't feel that way. It's easier with the internet to find different points of view than what the government and media want you to know too, than it would have been for our parents and grandparents. Although my mother was always a bit suspicious of the "official storyline" even if there wasn't much more to it than her suspicions. It comes from being lied about, then you know there must be others who are also lied about.

I remember coming home from school horrified after learning of some massacre or other that the "indians" perpetrated upon the white settlers, and my mother telling me I am only getting the white version of the story and that these massacres were usually in retaliation for massacres perpetrated upon the indians by the whites, but they forget to tell you that part. Manifest destiny and all that, it's ok for whites to do it but when the indigenous people fight back it's a massacre.

I don't think that adding your point of view with current events in mind is disrespecting your father or anyone who came before. It's just wondering what they might think if they knew the future.

Thanks donna. Sometimes I spend hours on a post and after I'm done, wonder if the whole thing was a good idea. It's good to get feedback sometimes telling me how it sinks in on the other end.

Your mom had good instincts.

You have every right to do be angry. The truth is American was sold by snake oil salesmen who continue to say this is a land of opportunity. I say bullshit.

We are told to sit in class to here who Americans were the victims, when it should be the other way around. The US is the aggressor, the predator. Nobody talks about the history of the thousands of lynchings that took place between 1847 and 1935, the use of counter-insurgency armed forces beginning with the Texas Rangers, random torture and murder by Anglo ranchers, forced labor, rape by border lawmen, and the prevailing Anglo belief that a Mexican life doesn't equal a dog's in value.

yes, you have a right to criticize.
