foto Luis J. JimenezDuring the night helicopters brought military troops into the city. According to La Doctora, impeccably calm and intelligent as ever on Radio Universidad, the people must remain non-violent - she mentioned Mahatma Ghandi - to avoid the provocations the military and PRI will attempt. ...

This morning a student from the Technologcal [sic] Institute in front of Radio Universidad was shot in the chest. His name is Marcos Manuel Sanchez Martinez. He is still alive and receiving medical care. La Doctora says that the shooters are establishing an early morning pattern of attacks.

Meanw3hile, [sic] supporters are on the road toward Oaxaca for the march which is scheduled to convene at 10:00 AM in front of the monument in Colonia Viguera. According to La Jornada about 700 people left Mexico DF to come here. ..."

This is important. The "verdict" in Saddam's "trial'? Not so much. The Kerrysian mangling of the Queen's English? Not one bit. The hypocrisy and neurosis of Evangelical crusaders? Important, but documented and understood by now, I hope. The murderous farce that we brought into Iraq and that some maniacs keep trumpeting as "democracy"? Very important. And also part of this same snake that bobs up from the rank swamps of poisoned hearts to siphon the peace and calm and resources of the little People.

A very important and age-old pattern of attacks.

An interesting issue is that there appear to be death squads operational even with all those troops. Guys with high caliber rifles and explosives trying to shoot out the broadcast equipment at University Radio. Shooters cutting up a kid with fire from both sides.

They razor wired the Zocalo today. I guess that's for the tourists.

Stay home you are needed here Luisa, I know it's a compelling feeling to run down there to be in the mix and to do your part for the revolution however what you are doing here is important too.

Going to war carries with it the realization you may never return, a sober thought indeed.

Nezua: thanks for your continuing coverage on the war next door, I don't believe American citizens realize the danger Mexican citizens are in. Worse some may not care.

The fallout from this has a potential to touch all of us, and that is very big.

It's horrifying, Charles.

Luisa, I understand! I have a post I've been hitting here and there touching on that feeling. The intensity and importance of these events seems to make so many other issues pale in comparison. As I think, often, they ought to.

Leesee, thank you. I agree.

Funny how these attacks are occurring right before the election. Everything is going according to schedule. All eyes on the election, Fox is able to deliver on his promise to take of Oaxaca right before Dec 1.
