Dems Take the House (and Clean House)

Categorized under 2006 Midterm Elections | Tags:

OH YEAH BABY. Can you smell the investigations? Pelosi officially recognized as (potential) New Speaka de la Casa, via FOX news live stream. Fox now projecting the Republicans have lost control of the House.

UPDATE: CNN calls House for Democrats, too.

UPDATE: Ah, it's so sweet to listen to FOX right now, Greenwald was right. Listen to this one whining, fearin', worryin' n frettin' over impeachment and if the Democrats can be "civil" or something like that. Now they wanna talk "Civil." How rich.

UPDATE, 23:09 PST: I think I'll have to pass out soon. There are a few races up in the air, important ones, but I'm getting bleary. Although most people are conceding the Senate to the GOP, I am holding out wild, starry-eyed hope that the Republicans get outnumbered there, too.

One thing I can promise you, though. Right here and now, I promise you that our big-time, swaggering, tuff-guy Connecticut Cowboy ("from" Texas,) who listens to nobody and "reads no polls" will come out tomorrow at his 1 pm press conference talkin' all kinds of mealy-mouth "bi-partisan" bullshit. Suddenly, we'll hear words like "unity" and "cooperation" and the dreaded "spirit of bipartisanship."

The Democrats need to remind him that they crushed the GOP today because the People want change. If Bush is willing to come on board, then sure: we can all move together in a180º direction from wherever the Hell he thought he was taking this country back there in Dictator Dream Land. If not, oh well.

Don't get me wrong. I mean, yes, yes. I know that this doesn't solve our problems. It's not as if the Democrats will turn everything in the world upside down or inside out. But man....I just feel like someone found the brakes before we went off the cliff. Sure, we're still teetering, perhaps still sliding very slowly. But at least now I can get out and walk. I don't have to fling myself from a hurtling, smoking wreck.

Time will tell.

Anyway. Life goes on as you'd expect. FOX NEWS just now: "everyone was knocking the [exit] polls, but ...they were pretty spot-on."

riiiiight.... They were. So now you need to ask yourselves, oh Fox listeners: why were they so damn wrong in 2004? Hmmmmm.

'night.

UPDATE, 06:06, NOV 8, PST: Further results:

• The Dems are 2 1 hotly-contested seats from Owning House and Senate. Virginia and Montana. OH WAIT my magical RSStal ball sez Webb has won in VA! One down, and Democrats have both House and Senate.

So. Again: the Dems taking the Senate, también, hangs on the outcome of the Montana race. And as of right now, at 06:37 PST, Nov 8, Tester's (D) lead over Burns (R) is up to a total of 1,586 votes. With 99% of precincts reporting, vato. UPDATE, 07:58 PST: Official count calls it for Tester! UPDATE 11:52 PST: CNN calls Montana for Dems, as well. (Well, that's it. House and Senate, baby. And that is pronounced "Gavel.")

• Dem turnout was higher than GOP turnout.

• Dems win majority of State Legislatures.

• South Dakota nixed the Abortion ban.

• Nick Lampson, Democrat, takes Tom "Filthy Smiling Crook" Delay's seat.

• Joe "Traitor Against His Party" Lieberman won reelection. Tom "I Hate Latinos and Immigrants the same" Tancredo won reelection. (Can't allll be good news, I guess.)

• Senate: I think it will be coming to the Democrats. Webb has announced

• From MyDD.com: P.S. The "counter" to the netroots page, "Rightroots" lost every race they endorsed and raised funds for. No wonder they have taken the site down, and no longer list their endorsed candidates.

• As a few sites are saying, the Republicans were shut out. Not one House, Senate, or Governor pickup for ZHOO!

• Myth of GOP Invincibility: Shattered.

TO the LGF crowd, and the rest of the sniveling authoritarians suffering visions of Der Great Leader being toppled like a statue: Let me quote Michelle Malkin here: May I be the first to say: Boo-freakin-hoo.
