How to Make Blog Like Gentle Warrior
Categorized under The CyberXicano | Tags: blogs, Code, NSA
FINALLY, I MADE A CHANGE THAT REALLY MATTERS. I found the template that determines the look of my blog entry page (the one you type into when making an entry), and I plugged in all the code for my big fancy blockquotes (that include font size changes, links to source, p breaks, and a spot for the image to go), for the image I always include with a post, and for the border image I use sometimes to separate parts of a post. I can't tell you how much time this saves me. I used to have to go to an old post and copy that code every time, or type it out. And it really is a lot of typing, done over and over and over.
For MT users (me, billmon, wampum, vivir latino, the ALLNEW Latina Lista (not yet live) and others I don't know about, we seem to be few), this can be found at cgi-bin/mt/tmpl/cms/edit_entry.tmpl (unless you've built an alternate config).
Play around and you'll find a spot to plug any code in that you want to have in front of you when writing a post. Of course don't put it inside script or other code that goes into making the page function! You want to find a place between enclosed lines of code, where it can fall into an "in-between" spot on your page. Remember, you will have to use HTML symbols for things such as ">" marks and such, or the code will be translated by the page when you load it and you will have nothing to drag into your window! Just a nice blockquote of sample text to look at.
And make sure—as always—to (wear a rubber, dear; I feel like a mother or something, reminding you on the way out the door to be safe) first backup the file, and only make one change at a time in one browser window and in the other, refresh template after each change (or better yet, use a separate testing blog for all these kinds of things) so you can undo it with your backup if you go astray.
I made the code so it would appear as small, silvery font so it doesn't distract me too much (also so I can feel like Gandalf reading runes by moonlight), separated by darker bullets (so I can grab disparate pieces of code I've put there for different uses) but it's right above the entry field where I can grab it easy.

All I have to do now is open an entry, begin typing, and when I want to plug in this code, I just select it and drag it into the window. Man! It's like magic! I still smile every time, although I suppose the joy will wear off a little in time.
PS: NSA, I know you are all in my shit. But can you please find a computer whiz to help you spy on me so that you are not screwing up my server/loading behavior? Amateurs. You're messing with my 'Net use and that means WAR!!!

well that was amusing! wonder what it would do to the template if you took "olesja"'s suggestions for improvement ;)
