Merry Christmas, Soldier.

A VETERAN of our war in Afghanistan was called to serve in Iraq, but couldn't bear the thought of shipping out. I guess Spreading Freedom wasn't rewarding enough for this ingrate, this Cut-and-Runner, this soldier who made his last stand on Christmas of 2006. It lasted 14 hours and in the end, he committed suicide by cop.
In the bloody sands of Iraq, in the profitable stacks of Halliburton stock, in the now-twisted minds of the kids who bought the crock—let freedom ring.

There was a soldier from the California that killed himself while still in Iraq. he shot himself in front of his officials. he had been told he would be going home soon. i don't think the human brain is conditioned to deal with seeing so much bloodshed. we have to put good images in our heads, ones that give us hope, and the bad images must be dealt with in some way or else they'll drive us crazy. sanity is a fairly fragile thing.
this news saddens me. his poor family.

it's very sad. mostly because we can justify these effects on young people. i think it definitely drives people mad to go to such a dark place in the human condition; a place where you can justify mass-murder.
