The Chain of Bruces

SHAOLIN SOCCER (Siu Lam Juk Kau), starring and directed by Stephen Chow is a kick ass movie, combining philosophy, kung-fu, song, comedy, special effects and hilarious acting in a very satisfying blend. One of my personal favorite scenes (there are many) has got to be the love story/dough-rolling kung-fu part when he meets the girl who cries into her pastries and he gives her his old ragged shoes. When I first got the DVD, it was that part that first previewed how the film could infuse humor perfectly with philosophy and drama and even unreal special effects that you totally bought, and martial arts. It seems like too much to make work at once and it is a fantastic synergy in this movie. I can watch it again and again.

I thought of it because I just read that Chan Kwok-kwan (the lead in Shaolin Soccer) is actually going to be playing Bruce Lee on television programming in mainland China. He was a fun Bruce lookalike in the film. I wonder how it will work on TV. I wonder what TV in China is like to begin with.
