¡9 Koufax Nominations for Nez!

Categorized under Blogando | Tags: ,

grafik by NezuaTHE KOUFAX AWARDS. I promised myself I would not nominate myself or pimp my blog to get nominated. Why? Simple. I know I like my junk! And if I asked for nominations or did it myself, well, it's not like I feel I would deserve the nomination any less, so don't infer that high-falutin' notion. But the truth is...if I did that, would I ever know if others dug my stuff enough to nominate it? No. I wouldn't. I would never know that. So I kept quiet, secretly hoping someone would at least nominate this blog for something. Hoping that all my sweat, blood and tears affected others enough that they would think of me when visiting the sacred Wampum ground. Well, The Unapologetic Mexican has been nominated in a wider array of categories than I even would have hoped. That's not just talk. I truly was surprised.

I don't think there really are any more categories I could possibly be nominated for. So I feel safe writing this now. And I do it to say thank you—really—to you people who connect with the writing that I do on this journey. I do it mostly for myself, but I also do it in the spirit of solidarity. So it is very satisfying to know that it means something to you.

I have no idea how the actual voting will go or if I will make it to Finalist in anything. There's no real way to know. But I honestly mean it when I say that regardless of anything else that happens from here on in, thank you. It means a lot.

update: whoa, i see now that the blog has been nominated for a tenth category! Best Post, for Please Don't Let On That You Knew Me When, which was just an image. (It did travel the 'Net pretty well.) Muy chido! I like that the nomination is for a single fotoshop job.

Do we have to belong to any sort of organization, or register or anything, to be eligible to vote?

nezua limón xolagrafik-jonez dijo:

GRVTR

nope! just a blogger. or a commenter. jeje.

but voting is not open yet. just nominations.

OK, so you'll have a Pacoima-sized volcano post up to remind us when voting time starts, right?

nezua, I found your blog through Jesus' General, and I'm very glad I did. I enjoy seeing a different perspective on our so-called melting pot, and most folks seem pretty timid about confronting our continuing race problems. Congratulations on the nominations.

Congrats bro.

How about this slogan, I changed the context of Henry B Gonzalez's old slogan "You can drink his beer and eat his tamales, but when you go the polls, vote for Gonzalez!" that he used when he ran for Congress. So it now reads -

You can read other people's blogs and comment on their posts, but when you go vote, vote for Nezua!

Buen hecho ese, congrats.

thanks ill do chay...i guess "timid" is one thing i am not. i'm glad you found my joint, too.

xp that's a funny-ass slogan and i think everyone online ought to repeat it three times, like the mantra in the "candyman" movie. except i promise not to appear out of thin air if they do.

graz, el gato. thanks again, all of you.

!Felicidades, mi hermano! That's way cool.
And I want to know: what is a Consonant Level blog???

Kai dijo:

GRVTR

Congrats, Nez. You richly deserve the acclaim. And thanks for the nod in the Koufax comments. ;-)

turtlebella, "consonant level" is a slightly overly cute way of saying "not A-list; but B-, C-, and D-list". In other words, smaller blogs.

Cheers.

thanks all, kai.

back to work now on that article for tha mag - edit. man. what a tuffie. but it really is better.

i gotta say i like "smaller blog" better than "consonant level." too much stepladder in the second...

Felicidades you really deserve this honor. Be proud, you have paved the way for the rest of us and now the blogosphere will become a bit "browner".

That's always a good thing.

Si, si, si--I'm so happy to see sooo many of us colored folk up there--and what's more, four chican@s???? (that I could see (you, me, XP, and the person at dos centavos), there's probably more in all those nods that i've never heard of before..)--but you and XP deserve it especially, your writing is so profound and deep and well researched--and you specifically, nezua, you're so amazingly artistic--you pull things out of me that I forgot was in there, you know?

congratulations, and I look forward to voting for you!!!

thank you darkblack. sorry your comment got held, but as my traffic and , um, unfriendly comment incidence has slightly increased lately, i've turned on a moderation plugin. i actually already entered your email, but you may have used a different one this time? either way, thanks a lot.
