Gonzales Fears the Power of the Blog
Categorized under Dear Alberto | Tags: fotoshop, gonzales, NSA, war on terror
Feingold's first question - "do you know of any one in the country who opposed eavesdropping on terrorists?"
Gonzales: Sure - if you look at blogs today, there is a lot of concern about all types of eavesdropping, who don't want us eavesdropping at all.
Feingold: Do you know anyone in government who ever took that position?
Gonzales: No, but that is not what I said.

CAN I PLEASE just laugh my ass off for about...oh, forty-five minutes? The big, bad attorney general fighting his big, bad War 'O Civilizations and wielding justification based on peeples at home typing their opinions into their personal computers??? Basing arguments for violating rights that supposedly make up the fabric of Murka on Citizens + Wordpress® n shit? Um...pssssst, ALberto: do you know what the word "patético" means?
I can't believe he wasn't embarrassed to say that!

Nezua, what does the mexicano community feel about Alberto (IIRC, 1st gen USAer - parents immigrated from Mexico)? Is there an equivalent term/role to what Belafonte called Colon Powell and Kindasleazy Rice?

the frase is pinche vendido (effin' sellout, my translation) as far as i am concerned. it's tuff to speak for the "mexicano community" because i have met mexican@s online who say "he doesn't owe us anything." but ask francis x alarcón what he thinks about the community as a whole. he wrote that "every mexicano is a potential chicano." and i take that to mean (in the positive sense) that there are many who at any time can grow into seeing the light and helping each other rise, and in the negative sense, that blood doesn't necessarily equal awareness. a "Chican@" is politically aware, down wit la causa, and could not (in the spirit of self-love, not just communidad) overlook the son of undocumented migrants persecuting his own kind so aggressively, among all the other things this PINCHE VENDIDO does with all his energy, time, and amerikaner power.
on the whole (and maybe this is what you meant specifically) i don't know that there is a literal chican@ equivalent to the "uncle tom" phrase. if so, i haven't heard it yet. but pinche vendido works for now. :)

I was looking for what you gave, a sort of (harsh version of) sellout. I just wonder what makes people like that (Stockholm Syndrome?). Of course, I don't get why anyone wants to persecute in the first place.

Greed, fear, arrogance. We call them Pity-Yankees, people who want to be more American than the American. Sellouts by any other name....

Also related to blogging, mi papa just sent me this article:
Political Bloggers Could Be Required To Register Or Face Jail Time
By Mitch Wagner
Jan 17, 2007 at 07:22 PM ET
An outfit called GrassRootsFreedom.com is reporting that the U.S. Senate is considering legislation that would require political bloggers with readership over 500 to register as lobbyists. If they fail to register, they could face criminal penalties up to one year in jail...
The legislation regulates small, legitimate nonprofits, bloggers, and individuals, but creates loopholes for corporations, unions, and large membership organizations that would be able to spend literally hundreds of millions of dollars, yet not report.
Congress is trying to blame the grassroots, which are American citizens engaging in their First Amendment rights, for Washington's internal corruption problems.
I'm sure Alberto thinks this must be a great idea also.

i cannot stomach his smug fake accent.. you know he didnt get it from his parents/ I am from Texas and most mexican people do not speak like that.. whenever I hear this type of self -hating traitors in person / it sends me to a katatonic state of disbelief then sadness and then disgust.. Triste!! It seems it will only be a matter of time before 'the internets' media will be stripped of any non commercial usefulness
