Living the Dream

Categorized under Corazón , Política Estados Unidos | Tags: , , ,

THIS IS A REMINDER that if your government wants you to be quiet when discussing the possible violations it has committed against YOU—the people who make up this so-called NATION—then this "government" is up to no good. That is to say, if the GOVERNMENT wants you and I to engage in unAmerican acts like suppression of dissent, suppression of questioning, suppression of discussion and the free flow of OUR information, then it is not looking out for OUR best interests.

Who are these people? These rich, conniving men who live by the pretense of a Vote? Who are these elitist, lying, sonsofbitches who grin at the camera but despise having to answer? Who are these lazy, pimping, ladrones who shuffle off to a golf game in some sunny land on a jet that you and I pay for and then pretend to work for us as they arrange their dynasty so that their lineage can be well comfy in the Cush we bleed for? Who are these gangsters oiling up their bloated bellies in the creamy top layer of our collective sweat? Who are these pretenders to the throne, putting on acts of Grand Principle? Who are we to have let them use us so? Who are we, to settle for words we know are lies, for ideas we know are fluff, for wars we want nothing of—who are we to bat our eyes at our sneering captors?

img This is a reminder that the United States Government has REPEALED HABEAS CORPUS, READS YOUR MAIL, READS YOUR EMAIL, AND IS LISTENING IN ON YOUR PHONE CALLS AND RECORDING YOUR PHONE CALLS. This is not because they think you are a Terrorist. This is so they can increase their power and control. This is a reminder that these aging men do NOT want you to talk about this, they do not want you thinking about it, they don't even want a ripple across the benumbed brow of Lady Liberty's botoxed countenance as they lunge into her exposed and disrobed carcass. What fucking liberty? HA! What are we exporting to the Middle East except lies, pain, and blood? What Home of the Brave? HA HA! What fucking Land of the Free? The government wants you to keeeeeep sniffin' the asscrack of propaganda and go back to ya punch clock; go back to ya hazy, murky dream of pie. So does the hand of greed reach across rolling plains and dazzling beach. So waves the fluttering Lie.

I say we come up with a day to remind ourselves that we are being spied on by our own government. Fine, they want us to forget it, keep it on the lo-lo? I say we make the first day of every month a Reminder of the Wire. Keep it active in our conversations until it has been fairly addressed and dismantled. This is what I will do from now on. Expect an eye-catching graphic, and a monthly salute to the freedoms we once had.

img I don't know about your America, but I was raised in one where they told us that one of the things that made us great was our ability to have open discussion, freedom of speech, a critique (at all times) of the government, and a hand on our anti-fascist weaponry (the untamed and nonvoting heart of dissent tea party type pride in the People's Power). I was raised in a land that believed in the individual's right to their privacy, property, and a life unfettered by some monarchic eye or hand. We now KNOW that this is no longer the case. There's been no big party to announce it, but a steady drip of e-vites to coldly usher us into the New American Century, one lost liberty at a time.

SO—if the individual does not have these long-touted rights, and yet with the death of the Individual's stature and importance we are not told to embrace the collective or the Whole, what is left? A weakened, fractured, people dependent upon the whim of the lunatic State. Tiny, Inter-nected and isolated and spied on/documented plots of fear. Small, well-mown acres of self-interest and paranoia and compliance. Well-buffered and fecal-buttered roles of behavior. Idiots in boxes cheering smaller boxes and eyeing tiny, stained and stickered paths to tinier boxes. Is this your Murka?

It's not all darkness. I do have a dream. I dream of a day that we get to see this administration exposed for the festering cadre of malice and self-interest that it is. I have a dream and it is to watch georgewbush either on trial for the gross violations of our American pretense he has committed, or to suffer at the hand of a Just and Fair God, like the Republican Hero Reagan did, struck down from his grinning perch of hypocrisy by the ravaged hand of disease. A karmic infliction of a divine Decision that brings image and fake power to it's paper-thin knees. I want to believe that we can comfortably sink back into the illusion of American Justice and Might and Equal Rights. But I wonder if we can. Georgie just had to go and pull the wool from our eyes, didn't he? He just had to go and wake us up.

grafik by NezuaCan you see past what you've come to know? Can you unknow it? Will we pull our CIA out of dirty business around the world? Will we stop adding disastrous self-interest into the instability of other nations? Will we stop propping up dictators we later have to shiv? Will Murka change its basic views on Power and People and Human Rights and Economic Might? Will Murka begin caring about the good of the People around the world instead of its own hyper-stoked gun cabinet and moneybox? Will Murka and her leaders finally realize the Western paradigm is self-defeating? Do you really think it will? Can you honestly go back to talking about Justice as Voting Integrity, when you know what we are aiding and abetting around the world? Are you one to be sold by TV spots and lying men standing in Ari Fleischer's old spot? Will that be good enough for you?

No big answers today. I'm just throwing out a reminder that all that glorious shit they told us in school was a lie. What Newsweek tells you is a lie. What Time tells you is a lie. What ABC tells you is a lie. What CNN tells you is a lie. The great books were right, the great thinkers were right, the government is drowning in its own fear, powerlust, and incompetence and they are telling us the levees are stronger than ever. If we care about our national stability and personal comfort, all we can do now is pray that those powerful agents who have something to lose by Murka's weakness being exposed at the roots will come together to sew back up the slipping stitches that threaten to expose the knobby, crooked, broken spine of this beast.

If we care about the heart and health of this world, we simply look to the horizon and hope the Earth and her creatures get what is best for them, no matter what that means to us, personally. After all, we've come a long way worrying about what is best for us personally.

It's a dangerous terrain, this American Dreamscape.

i guess that is why they call it a "dream."--because we wake up from it only to see the gross atrocities of reality. we take the right pill and stop believing in their conspiracy. oh, right, my spectacular court performance wasn't part of a play. :D i was too little to understand how bad things were. i didn't have the critical thinking skills to figure out anything was dreadfully wrong. how would they ever have explained the truth to me anyway? it makes me wonder what those children locked in prison in texas are thinking. this is the america they are raised in. people say they are "in the system" as if we are not all in that same system. they are just closer to it and can see the beast for what it is capable of. they didn't have the choice to take the pill, it was given to them. as for the rest of us, sometimes we need these reminders. it is harder to see invisible bars.

great post.

The prominence of control is only dubious for the groups that have little to no control -- this country always has concerned itself more with power than the will of the people.

Your entry reminds me of something that Arundhati Roy wrote in her book War Talk about too little, too late -- she explained how our activity came after the arms match, came after nuclear development, came after the international war industrial complex -- it came so late and with so few concessions that the political bodies of the world have created an oligarchy and holds all countries -- democratic and otherwise -- hostage in its battles. We're key to their sacrifices and the first pawns in their strategies because of the control they exert over our peril and the obliteration of the things we love most.

About six months ago (more or less) I got so fed up with what was going on, waiting for the inevitable knock at the door that I wrote the following:

(feel free to reprint at will, please change name or leave blanc if you wish):

Hello, my name is Rafael R. Piñero Arrufat and I am an Enemy of the State. I am an Enemy of the State because:

*

I am a Puerto Rican, and I believe in freedom for all and independence for the nation that I love, Puerto Rico.

I am a firm believer in human rights and in the idea that all men, all people, everywhere are created equal.

I despise the Empire that is the United State of America and mourn the loss of the Republic. I don't want my people or anyone else to be dragged through the fires of it's inevitable Imperial demise.

I have an Arab sounding last name and resent been stopped every time I check my bags at the airport. To be put under the of microscope of suspicion without proof or reason. I am proud of my name, it is part of who I am and I will not change it.

I can not and will not remain silent while the Constitution of the United States, one of the greatest documents ever written, is soiled by the actions of a mad king.

I am not afraid and I refuse to be afraid, of this government, of the terrorists, of the future.

I believe that the war in Iraq is not a noble experiment or some misguided attempt to do right, but a mad quest for Empire, at all cost.

I believe, as John Kerry once said, that no one, NO ONE, should be the last one to die for somebody else's mistake.

I believe in freedom, honesty, compassion and bravery, the things this government and its leaders are not and will never be.

My name is Rafael R. Piñero, and whether I like it or not, I am an Enemy of the State. Enemy to apathy, cowardice, tyranny and oppression. That is who I am. Nothing more and nothing less.

They have redefined 'freedom' to mean 'shopping', and they have extended credit, so that more people can participate in this 'freedom'.

Who are these people?
--Nez

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long years
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain

I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank

I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made

I shouted out,
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me

Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame

Jeje. good call. Grew up hearing that song, always loved it. I still think of the Beggar's Banquet LP cover when I hear it.

On that note, here is a version I recorded last year. I was just messin around testing gear, so I didn't hit all the verses, but I did go back and lay in some overdubs. It's a bit sloppy, but it was fun.

I love it. Your version sounds possessed. And you hit the most important verse, "You and me", over and over.

I had to laugh last year when 'The Corner' selected the 50 best "conservative" rock songs, and "Sympathy For The Devil" was, like, No.3 on the list. Their interpretation of the song is that the devil is an actual, external being roaming the world, twisting its inhabitants. They just don't get it, which is why they are so susceptible.

Yeah L.G. the Devil, he is you and me....

I have come up with a day to remind me that our government lies, cheats, steals and spys on us. It is called "EVERYDAY".
Yo recordermo siempre. That is why I read site such as yours, Jesus General, Crooks&Liars, y el otros tambien. BTW, the Nanker-Phelge was and is still one of my favorite song writing teams of all time. If there is a God then let him bless the Glimmer Twins! And, the rest of the world too.

kick it, ése.
