State of Supremacy - A Rant on Buchanan

Categorized under Literatura | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

grafik by Nezua IT WASN'T EASY to check the box above this post for the "Literatura" category. It's a very generous term to apply to Pat Buchanan's book State of Emergency, which I had to read to write the article on The Great Aztlán Reconquista Plot for Chican@ Art Mag's Winter issue. But it was enlightening. Es bueno, pero ahora I can discuss his views, and the views of those he represents, in detail. And what I found is that the only thing at the core de su palabras es puro White Supremacy. El triste parte de este is that I am not even reading into his words. You would, I bet, be amazed to read how blunt he is about it. Pero...quizás no eres sorprendieron! Most of it did not surprise me, pero then I began getting to parts that I was just amazed to be reading. I was thinking This is okay to say? I mean, believe me: I'm ALL for freedom of speech. So, I guess I have to support his right to say it.

Pero solamente en una nación where your own kind were the dominant culture could you say the things he is saying: longing for the days when American European males were not burdened by a complicated conscience, and could proudly and freely say things like "the only good Indian is a dead Indian"; bemoaning how these days such a stance, or doing things like "flirting with the Klan" would be looked at as "repellent," or "racist"... !

But on the whole, I was not suprised. Because you see, I grew up here. I grew up aqui, en esta nación, en el Estados Unidos. I can only say that Pat is honest about his feelings. Y tristemente, I respect him more for that than I do those who butter up their poison biscuits so they smell like cookies, instead of the mierda they are.

To those commenters who have dropped by to say "it's racist to say all the things you do! What if I went around yelling 'White Power'?" and so on (what I call the Fallacious Flip), I pose esta pregunta: What if I wrote a 270 page book that said things like—

Man, do I long for the days when you could scalp a White Man. What's wrong with la gente, la indígena? Do the Indians want to be completely eradicated by the inferior, stupid, ignorant Whites? Where have all those Indigenous men gone who are not afraid of the Paleface conqueror? We've got to get together and restore the pride that our ancestors so boldly had! We've got to unite, before it's too late, and drive these fat, stinking, filthy, raping, murdering European Americans from this continent.

Where are the strong, proud, Indians of yesterday? They didn't tiptoe and pretend White People were better or somehow in control of things; they were not burdened by complex consciences! Ultimately, there's no place for White European American invaders on this soil, and unless we take things in hand, as our antepasados did, we will be completely lost in their blanching and flavorless gene pool."

—Nezua Limón Xolagrafik Jonez Type Author, The Book That Would Get Me Hunted Down and Lynched

Gee. Why can't I just turn the example around the way I like it, like an Oreo cookie? Why wouldn't this produce the same results? Would this not just slip into the stream of many published books, unnoticed and apparently unremarkable?

No. Because I live in the land ruled by those who consider themselves, on the whole, descended from the fucking "patriots" who came here in boats and slaughtered all the Indians in their way, and who still fear the tides of Indians who boldly and ILLEGALLY INFILTRATE the nice, well-mowed American Green Zone that has convinced itself White Supremacy is in the past....

luna sohalia herrera Stings a bit, eh? Reading that? If you are White, that stings a bit, hunh? Exactly. Feel it. Ride with that. Yeah, let it soak in. Let that soak in every day. Read it every day, let it become you. Let it twist around your aortic valve like an enemy hand wearing a friendship bracelet. Let it make you question if your cells are actually composed of shit. Let it make you want to run away from yourself. Let it walk with you everywhere you go, tagged to your sleeve like a black worm, like a symbol everyone can see, one that marks you as Other. Let that (sometimes disguised or euphemized) sentiment bleed from your TV, your radio, your JC Penney ads, conversation around you, let it interrupt your movies with steretypes. Mmmmm. For years. Let it soak in so ubiquitously that you don't even know when it's smacking your bones. Let it soak in so surreptiously that you don't know you are hiding, that you actually make up excuses to aid your oppressors, so that you lie about your heritage. Let it be so well-dressed-up that you don't even know your mind is being invaded by ugly self-loathing thoughts and you eventually think you agree with those would eradicate you and your "kind." Go back to your youth, and put it in your tender ears. Let that feeling spiral into your confidence like excrement-smeared, corazón-seeking drillbits. Let self-hate follow you to the store where you buy shit to dye your hair and let it purchase colored contact lenses for you so you can flee your entire (nosuchthingas) race.

grafik by Nezua LET ME BE clear: I do not write these types of entries to make any "White" people feel bad for revenge, or to "get back" or for no reason but to vent. I do not hate White people. As I have said: My mother is White, not of color. Mi ruca is White, not of color. I have friends who are White, not of color. Sure, they can't dance, but I don't care! What do I care? They didn't harm me, and as long as they don't, we're cool. I don't hang out with those who think like Pat, I don't particularly have much patience for those who think like Pat, and I just may step up to those who talk like him. The reason I write like this and point this out is to empower myself and others like me, to remind us that we are allowed to be angry, if that's where we need to be in our process of growth out of this mold; to make it clear what People of Color are going through—because I know if you are White, then it would be very easy not to know. How could you, really? Some (and I know some who are regulars here) understand as much as any person can understand another's plight that they have not felt specifically themselves. And it pains me that they may feel I don't "like them" or that I harbor a natural enmity for all European Americans. I do not. I may be biased toward favoring those who have been hurt or struggled or crunched up by this machine of American Agenda and the heavy hand of the Dominant Culture and Moral code (handicapped people, gays, blacks, browns, all POC, junkies, women, freaks, losers, rejects, artists, etc) but that doesn't mean the second I feel a person (of any ethnicity) is cool, I won't wholly embrace them. I will.

grafik by Nezua It's for the other non-POC I direct much of this. The truly White. Those whose default is not to notice anything but their own experience, and judge us all by their own experience and their own un-thought-out superiority complexes; those who know it is best for all POC to heed the healing and helping hand of the White Man's wise and enlightened educated refined decisions and HIStory books. And even for those, there is hope. Because it is not so difficult to be ignorant of the pains of others, when you are in the dominant group. It happens to me. Just as some men (of color or not) may not blink when Nancy Pelosi is insulted not for her job performance, but for having the secondary sex characteristics she naturally has, as a woman.

Pero, to be honest, no tengo paciencia para White people coming into my blog and telling me not to talk smack about them. Because this smack is only a FRACTION of what a person of color will feel their WHOLE LIFE. So it's pretty damn nervy to think you can't stomach a word here or there, or a twinge here or there. Get real, vato. Hop into my empathymobile and ware the bumps. Part of being an ally is being willing to feel some pain along the way, if that brings you a deeper identification. It doesn't mean suffering endlessly at my personal hand. But it sure doesn't mean asserting your privilege in the space a person of color claims as their own forum. I know blogs like mine can be frickin uncomfy. But so is growth.

Sit with it.

Meanwhile, here is a picture of my youngest daughter, now growing up in this land (as well as with my other three children) with all its beautiful Free Speech rights. Also to watch movies, read books, and hear people speak in crowds; also to read newspapers, also to see titles of books on best-seller stands, also to absorb all these messages.

art by Nezua

I agree, Pat. We are in a state of emergency. When books like this can sell many copies without so much as a ripple in the mainstream conversation decrying the writing of such filth, we are in trouble. When "thinkers" like this have a large base of those who agree, we are in trouble. When this sentiment informs so much of our current policy and when the truth of it is, the indigenous of this land are the ones who have been ruthlessly attacked and exploited and yet still live in fear for more of the same, we do, indeed, have an emergency that must be addressed.

Here I am. Yo Soy Joaquín.

some concern when they smile as they ethnicly cleanse yu from the map.

however they are gonna have to really scrub scrub cause the demographic reality is that people of color outnumber the fundies.

the concern is the military is being infiltrated with right wing christies and the police tambien. so we have a potential gulag scenario. much as the swift roundup for the navidad.

it is gonna get ugly and brutal. but heh we been here before and us nortazos aint going anywhere.

i just didnt think this surge and escalation is so' how do you say' connect the dots.

thank deus we have alberto gonzalez on our side. tio taco indeed.

Anybody not devastatingly seduced by the Light side of the Force wielded by that Cindy Lou Who secret weapon with the biiiiig eyes, needs to just be taken out and dropped in a convenient cenote. There's no hope for anyone who can't see the world in a little kid's eyes and want it to be as grande and magnifico as it shines out at you.

I guess that's the trouble the world over though. Too many so called grown ups can do just that.

What I've been saying -- and perhaps being misunderstood for saying -- is that if white guys can't dance, it's probably not genetic.

ANYWAY, I'm glad "wordpress" lets me add tags. When I wrote on Pat (and -- alas -- so many others), I had to add one for "RIGHT WING IDIOTS".

Cheers... off to cumbia class :-)

That is the problem when the "colonizers" are intent in wiping out the histories of the land they conquered from the history book. We are constantly bombard with the notion that the American Revolution was all about when in fact, it was about securing new markets by conquering Native American land in order for the American Empire. Open any history book in our schools and you will see that our children are told that the United States began when Christopher Columbus "discovered" America, followed by how the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, and ending on how the 13 English Colonies won its independence from England through the American Revolution. We are taught that Jamestown is the oldest settlement in the US, when in reality St. Augustine in FL is the oldest.

We are told that the driving force of for our westward expansion was based on manifest destiny which explains why this country became the enormous, rich country we see today.

We are so schizophrenic when it come to the indigenous people. We celebrate Thanksgiving and pay homage to them for their kindness and then turn around and label them "merciless Indian Savages" in the Declaration of Independence and falsely accuse a whole population of assisting the Crown in the American Revolution.

In defining Colonialism, Frantz Fanon wrote: [C]olonialism is not simply content to impose its rule upon the present and the future of a dominated country. Colonialism is not satisfied merely with holding a people in its grip and emptying their native's brain of all forms of content. By a kind of perverted logic, it turns to the past of the oppressed people, and distorts, disfigures and destroys it.

As long as society is controlled through the dominant corporate media and their public relations partners Orwell will always be correct when he wrote "Those who control the past control the future; those who control the future, control the present; those who control the present control the past." And this is exactly what Pat is doing, trying to control the past will distortions.

I don't know where you are, who you are or why you believe what you do, nor do I care. It is your right if you are an American.

What I do care about is my country, and if you have lived here, were educated here, and have enjoyed the freedoms Americans have died to grant you, you should be respectful enough to understand the problem America is having now.

As an American I have a real problem with the lack of assimilation immigrants have shown, I'll grant you a lot of Immigrants bring with them skills and abilities that make America great, but those skills are being reciprocated with freedoms no other country enjoys.

I have NO Problem with LEGAL Immigration and I'd like to see some reform in the waiting line.

You and those like you are creating the difficulty YOUR people are facing in politics and national emotion.

All we are asking is that your compadres once here, BECOME AMERICANS.

Don't tell us, that have been here and payed taxes for generations, that we now need to learn YOUR language, If we want to we will.

Education in this country should be ENGLISH only except for electives.

In Mexico what is the National language? English is an elective if at all and not a necessity for any government or private employee's or employers.

The B.S. about it was our country first? Spoils of war my friend, however; it is a double edged sword, look at what your people have done to Mexico. If it was still Mexico's land Nevada,Canada, and Western Arizona would be the Border and the same thing would be happening.

The REAL problem is MEXICO, it's corrupt government and America's Laziness combined.

I won't come back, I'll let y'all go on thinking that is the Big bad American Racists against Immigration persecuting the Hispanics.

I am not a supporter of P.B either, I think he is a moron and he doesn't speak me.

BTW, I do commend you on your site building this is one well done web page.

I don't know where you are, who you are or why you believe what you do, nor do I care. It is your right if you are an American.

What I do care about is the truth, and if you have lived here, were educated here, and have enjoyed the soft life that Americans have lied and killed for to grant you, you should be aware of some real history instead of the tripe you swallow that is dished out by corporate-controlled interests who would sooner bury you than truly educate the pawns.

As a Human I have a real problem with the lack of awareness you show. I'll grant you a lot of people who talk like you are good people, and mean well, but your hypocritical, consumerist, selfish, ignorant, violent energies are destroying the world due to the propaganda you all are swallowing.

You and those like you are creating the difficulty the entire nation is now facing regarding politics, war, terror, and wordwide loathing.

All I am asking is that you and fellow "Patriots" like yourself get educated on how we really got here, and who has been wronged in order for you to be so comfy and self-confident in your exceptionalist attitude.

Don't tell me that a bunch of liberty-loving explorers built this land and you have the right to demand the indigenous continue to be yoked under your immoral laws and various subtle forms of colonization. My people have been here for thousands of years, your illegal borders and aggressive exploitation is hurting us still, and if we want to travel the lands we have for ages, we WILL.

Even the Mexican-American war's resolution provided for Spanish Language in the states, and now you pretend that is not part of signed treaty. Doesn't matter, the war was illegal and immoral, just like Iraq, just like so many of the actions the US military/CIA undertakes.

The B.S. about it now it's no longer the Indians' land? You wish. But saying so don't make it so. Tough shit, my friend. There are deeper and more sacred laws than bloody parchments scrawled by the hand of Imperialism and Greed.

The REAL problem is IGNORANT fools LIKE YOU.

You will come back. In fact I bet you are reading this right now.

BTW, I don't care if you like my web design skills or not.

There is a reason why we call this land of ours (in our little corner of the Caribbean) Boriquen. Why many places in the Americas (North & South) bear the native names (even in the whites of parts). You can't scrub the truth away my friends, you just can't do it.

So we now down to justifying America's colonial conquest with a weak "Spoils of war" argument. How pathetic and sad, well no shit Sherlock, tell me something I didn't know about the rule of war. It is not hard to understand the genocidal mantra that runs through your head - "To the victor go the spoils."

Since we are the victor, we get to dictate the use of our language such as using softening words for genocidal atrocities, so genocide and massacres becomes casualties and collateral damage, right. At least that is what we are calling it now. All we have to do is turn on the news to hear about the casualties in Iraq.

So as you glorify people like Washington and all other leaders who followed him in pursuing the genocidal assault against our native people, why not add Adolph Hitler to that list as Washington and Jefferson were the inspirations and models for Hitler as he was designing his own plan to exterminate the Jews, Gypsies, Slavs and other Untermenschen of his day. I guess the holocaust was just one of those "spoils of war" huh?

I know it is hard to believe because the holocaust could never happen in America, our leaders would never believe in their own, God-given superiority and the inferiority of all else. Right?. Take for example Adolf Hitler's address before the Reichstag on January 30, 1939:
"If the international Jewish financiers within and without Europe succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshevization of the world and thereby the victory of the Jewry, but the obliteration of the Jewish race in Europe."

Our country's Founding Father George Washington said in 1783:"the Indians, after all, were little different than wolves, both being beasts of prey, tho' they differ in shape who deserved nothing from the whites but total ruin."

Or was it Jefferson that inspired Hitler. Jefferson wrote that: the government was obliged now to pursue them to extermination, or to drive them to new seats beyond our reach.

But Injuns don't count, right? Their fate aren't part of the "spoils of war" because millions committed mass suicide in order to hand over "our spoils" to us. How would you explain African Americans? Are owning slaves a matter of the spoils of war? Must be since Thomas Jefferson believed that - The improvement of the blacks in body and mind, in the first instance of their mixture with the whites, has been observed by every one, and proves that their inferiority is not the effect merely of their condition of life.

It is unwise to believe crimes against humanity are perpetrated only by our enemies we succeed to devastate with our superior war machine.

YES! YES! YES! I love it when something I read makes me jump up and down with excitement over it's sheer "rightness". You are right on the money here especially when you tell those reading who are white to let those feelings sink in deep and live with them. They have no clue. As we both know, that lack of awareness of the privileges that the majority has is dangerous and leads to comments from brainwashed boneheads like Robet (sic) as well as the completely self-serving anti-immigrant movement.

Thank you for speaking truth. We need to hear that more often.
