Dawn Will Not Be Banished With A Button

I KNOW I OFTEN WRITE that no American Party will change the Way Murka Do. I know this probably frustrates some people who take their involvement with engaging the political machine very seriously. As they should. Take it all seriously! Take it all to heart. I do. In between moments of the opposite. I am not saying anyone should not hope, or not act in whatever way their heart urges. I am behind that. DOOD I chilled at Pier 57, and I wouldn't take it back. You do what you gotta. También, there are so many ways to see things. We all learn from what we all are doing.
But in this essay, the Glennstitution lays out in very proper reasonspeak one of the things I mean to say with that phrase that I'm sure earns me scorn. Now, I think those of us in the Smartypants wing of this here blogsfero know that if Glenn be speakin' it, then it be REEEeal. So my Appeal to Pagehithority must be heeded. Naw, hell, he's right, tho'. I mean, he is in line with your narrator on this one, and so we KNOW he's on the ball now.
But enough of this self-fluffing. As the G-man points out (and I do not quote here, but interpret), of all the "debates****" happening now, there is the underlying assumption that Murka Rulez Wit Gunz and Must Always Rule and no matter what, we must Rule the Strategic Ellipse. ¡Por supuesto! Of course!
Mira, to even think of Murka taking any other position (and why can we still continue a war that was completely perpetrated on the People becuz all big honchos upinhyeah KNOW that sooner or later, we gots to ring some barbed wire round those unruly darkies out in the sand pretending they own all the American oil under the ground; Bush was the one to take the heat and get us in there and no matter how peeps distance themselves now, they know it had to be done, the are glad he did it, they just think his touch was too heavy and lacking of propa advertising stylie) would be like asking Murka to make a flag with a handshake embroidered on it. Those well-defined rivers run red, after all.
Of course I wish it were different. I don't need to be contrary. Of course, I agree that getting the other party to rule would, by necessity, address many of the current mainstream complaints. I want to see it happen! The unbridled and undisguised contempt that the Republicans have showered upon both the supposed laws of this nation and the system of Government they claim to believe in are what they call in Amsterdam a DIS. And that must not stand. I agree Demz takin' power would be better for a great amount of people for a while, and a smaller amount of people for a long while. But I do not agree that we on this Earth can continue with the blindness and propaganda and self-interest that has kept so many of la Gente suffering at the hands of the Fat-Gatos struttin' on top. I do not think we can go backward. I do not buy the old lies. I am not alone.
I think many sense this, this cusp of change, this loss of all the Old Ways, the Old Dreams, the Old Stories, the Old Face. I think, in many ways—from Buchanan to Bush to the New York Sun, to McCain—this Old Guard is frantically reaching for all the buttons, urging violence and destruction to keep dawn at bay.
Swinging at all the ghosts of past actions, they give themselves night terrors that can not be banished.

I agree in principle with what you say, Nezua.
But...Too many hands from both sides of the equation are propping up the empire of lies.
The people, all people, must start to think and act from enlightened global interdependence and put aside irrelevant ideologies in order to hasten the collapse of, as Philip K. Dick put it, the 'Black Iron Prison', building anew upon what is truly worthwhile and making Justice for all more than a licence plate slogan.
Also, along with attempting to put such idealism into practical, pragmatic everyday use...Gird themselves for combatting the terminal psychosis that so many have now been infected by, both foreign and domestic.

I think a lot of Americans (not the majority, just the ones who have or think they have the most to lose) have an issue with pulling the plug on the elites that have dominated the 'American century'...And this fear is pushed down in a filtered way to those who are then coerced to vote against their own best interests.
But I'm preaching to the choir, aren't I?
I wonder, as I watch the Libby trial snake its way ever closer to the political heart of darkness that grips the United States, just how long it will be before the familiar cycle of pardon and coverup comes to the fore, allowed, even desired by the populace who refuse to face the ugly truth... the lies that they have been told about liberty and justice, and what atrocities are done in their names every bloody day.
Living a fiction is a hard addiction to break.

As I recall, GlennG had no problem excusing Israel's invasion of Lebanon last summer. I pretty much stopped reading him after that (along w/ a coupla other prominent 'liberal progressives').
We as a nation learned nothing from Vietnam.
absolutely fucking nothing . . .
(tho it did spur some innovations in artificial legs - arms were still pretty much wwII design - mebbe this war'll be good for something w/ all the amputees coming home)
no dem is gonna get up & say we don't ahve the right to "pre-emptive" war - to use nukes to stop our "enemy" from possibly getting one someday ... pfech, I woke up in a foul mood - laters
