Desayuno con el Diablo

FRIDAY ONCE MORE and I swear the days are flying by. Wasn't it just Friday?
Here's a spooky little ditty called Paciencia, by one of our favorites here at Nez's joint, Control Machete. A good video to watch late at night, when you can't sleep.
Enjoy your evening, vat@s!

It was just Friday, a couple of days ago, I'm pretty sure.
I had to check 2 different electronic calendars and the print newspaper yesterday before I would believe that it was Thursday.
The Time Stealers have been quite active this week :(

I really liked the song and the video. Unfortunately, I don't really know any Spanish. Can you give us just a very rough idea of what the song and video are about? It was interesting -- although I liked the video, something about the song was so hypnotic that I kept spacing out and not noticing what was actually going on in the video.

sorry, heraclitus. it may be a bit rough in places, as I am getting better at Spanish myself.
Paciencia, first of all, means "Patience." I'm not exactly sure what the song is "about," save that it's a study of an evening at home creeped out. It paints a picture of a late night, moody and dark and alone with the devil. i like that you call it hypnotic...that means you don't need language to fully "get it."
Tarde, despierto/
que es ese fuerte olo a incienso/
camino al pasillo/que pasa? todo se ha vuelte amarillo
(for your ear, Latin American spanish pronounces the "ll" (a single letter in the Spanish alphabet) as a "j" sound, whereas Spain Spanish pronounces it a "y"; so "amarillo" (yellow) would sound like "ah-mah-ree-jo") means
"up late and wide awake/
what is that strong scent of incense?/
i walk to the corridor/
what happens? everything turns yellow"
so it's that kind of mood being painted.
hay una dama que aun duerme en el colchon/
armado hasta los dientes/
la casa es sitio de dementes
is basically "there is a girl still sleeping in my bed/armed to the teeth/the house is a place of madness."
then we have the chorus: Paciencia, paciencia/
dime quien fue el que se robo tu inocencia/
paciencia, paciencia/
dime quien fue!
which i translate as "patience, patience/tell me who was it that robbed your innocence/patience, patience/tell me who it was"
Calmado, alterado/
dificil si se desayuna con el diablo/
ecos, mmmm que vueltas/
no es raro que no sienta la cabeza/
BAJON!/
desacelere ahora andando hacia el sillon/
sereno y con destreza/
sediento busco una cerveza...
is:
"Calmed, changed/
it is hard if you have breakfast with the devil/
echoes that return/
it's not rare to have no thoughts in the head/
weakening/
slowing down now, making my way toward the armchair/
calm and with skill/
thirsty and looking for a beer"
and the last verse:
Bailo con Maria/
comprendiendo lo que resultaria/
viajo por la senda/
pensando en lo que ahora venga/
ACCION !/
hay unos vatos comenzando una excursion/
unete a la fiesta !/
que es lo que hay del otro lado de la mesa?
would be:
"I dance with Maria/
understanding what happened/
traveling along the path/
thinking of what will happen now we go/
action/
there are some dudes/guys beginning a trip/
[unete?] to a party/
what is it on the other side of/across the table?"
hope that helps you enjoy it a bit more! (this might help, too. ;)

Hey, Nez, thanks a lot for the translation. There are some pretty freaky images in the video; the words explain some, not others. Thanks for posting this; it's really good.

sure, my pleasure. while the video fits the mood, it's not the band's official video for the song, i don't think. so keep that in mind.

Ah, I see. The fact that the images don't always sync up with the lyrics kind of works with the song; it makes the video more creepy and unsettling.

- perros amores (dogs of love/dogged love)
-bien, bien (good, good or well, well)
- Genio del Dub (genius dub, or Genius of the Dub)
- humanos mexicanos (well, that's self evident, no?)
sorry, i can't translate these ones right now. maybe i'll get around to hitting it sometime soon. :)
