Gracias a la Vida

Categorized under Música | Tags: ,

GIVE ME A CLASSICAL GUITAR, a beautiful voice, a strong heart and a song, and I need little else to find a place of unparalleled joy. Here is Mercedes Sosa singing Gracias a la Vida. Enjoy your evening, cool cats.

She says a few words at the end, not all I can make out. I think she credits the guitarist, the writer of the song (a poet and a prophet she says, someone Gomez?) and says it is about the simple and small things in life? UPDATE: La Profesora translates for us.

OMG, you're going old school ALL THE WAY!
Mercedes Sosa? Muchachito!
She's been singing longer you've been alive.

I missed part of it, the water boiled and I went to take it off. She is talking about Cesare Pavese, the Italian poet. He was a visionary, says she, and Gomes (a composer, of the next song she will sing?) is also a visionary. She hopes we will like the next song.

OK, another little bit. Pavese said that poets pretend not to know what they already do know. And this next (composer? performer? - Gomes) did in fact, modestly, pretend not to know what he already did. He appreciated the small things in life and she hopes we will like the song.
