To Some, Hate is a Game

Categorized under Acción , Medios , Migra , Raza | Tags: , , ,

THE LINE BLURS between "Illegal Immigrant" and "Hispanic" because those who hate need no reason nor well-defined boundary for their hate. In fact, the nature of hate inherently resists as much. All that is needed are thinly-veiled justifications and mainstreamed channels through which the haters can ooze their spiritual and mental ichor. Oh, and an army of followers to help them spew and spray it about.

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Hispanic political leaders say they will press sponsors of a radio talk show to sever their ties to the program if the hosts do not drop a campaign urging New Jersey residents to turn in illegal immigrants to federal authorities. [...]

But during their show, Craig Carton and Ray Rossi refused to apologize or end the campaign.

Hispanic leaders say the campaign – which is called "La Cucha Gotcha" and ends on Cinco de Mayo, or May 5, a Mexican holiday – is anti-Hispanic.

The WKXW hosts say it is not anti-Hispanic, but anti-illegal immigrant. They say illegal immigrants drain the economy and pose a threat to personal safety. [...]

Now, some may take issue with enlisting the public in Federal Immigration agent duties as egged on by radio stations (Police State, anyone? "threats to personal safety," anyone?), but at least Carton and Rossi, of WKXW FM in New Jersey are sensitive to how the Hispanic community perceives this "anti-immigrant" (sounds so American, eh?) effort—considering the campaign has a Spanish name that references the word "cockroach"; the spots play over Mexican music; and the campaign is coordinated to end on such an important Mexican date:

'I will not apologize to any community,' Carton said. 'We never said you can equate illegal immigration with Hispanics.'

But he added that 'the facts are that (most) illegal immigrants are Hispanics.'

See, and that's why we've got to keep an eye on those Brown™ types. They go ahead and got outraged and offended without the permission of the offenders. Clearly, Carton and Rossi's intentions are good! I mean, they said so. Yet, these Hispanics are acting as if there might be other, unintended, consequences of this action. And that presumptuous uppity shit smacks of the behavior of those OVERSENSITIVES that I've mentioned before. They make everything SO difficult, with their ability to see slights where none exist. Is it any wonder America can make no progress on these issues?

Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo, D-Essex, said Thursday that unless the campaign ended and the hosts of 101.5 FM's "Jersey Guys" apologized, he and other Hispanic leaders would "hit them where it hurts, in the pocket." [...] Caraballo said the campaign was laying the groundwork for violence against Hispanics.

The groundwork? Really? He's so generous. I'd say the groundwork is well laid. The groundwork has been laid for too many years. This is but another bucket of mortar for the bricks that these types carry everywhere they go. And if you're part of what you feel (um, or of what the radio tells you) is a huge movement to rid the land of your imagined enemies, where will the line fall in what is your right to do and not do to carry out that agenda? Will people who call other people "cockroaches" be satisfied by hanging up a phone? Or will their hands itch for something heavier?

img For those who enjoy taking action:

• email anyone at WKXW from this page; from the Program Director (Eric Johnson) to the Marketing/Promotions Director (Ray Handel).

Advertisers on the website (I'm sure NJ residents have the most weight, but all voices count here):

• Contact WKXW advertiser ROMA bank using their contact form page. Tell them where you stand.

• Contact Levinson and Axelrod attorneys (advertisers on the nj101.5 website) through their contact form and share your thoughts on their associations.

• Contact electrolysisNJ.com (local advertisers on the WKXW FM site) through their contact page and share your thoughts.

Are there any national advertisers, or is the radio company owned by anyone who has larger holdings, I tried to comment, but couldn't really think of anything to say, since the forms would show I'm out of state. I know, I could still advise them against advertising with a company that promotes hate, explain how people are aware of this, long-term economic interests, etc., but I just feel like it would be really toothless given that I'm obviously not in the area. Anyone else we can write to?

i agree jeff. i dont know how to find bigger sponsors. do you? i put this because it was all i had. but i'd love to hear how to find those who matter more.

Yeah, I don't know, Nez. I poked around their wiki article and such, but I can't see any obvious corporate connections. If they were owned by a company that also owned a local ABC affiliate, for instance, it might do something to write ABC (although even that may be a stretch). I can't see if, say, Pepsi is buying ads or whatever. But it's upsetting, because this radio statio is apparently a major radio station in NJ. But I'm not sure what kind of more effective action may be possible.
