What Was I Writing in March of '03 Game
Categorized under Blogando | Tags: historia, My Life
INTERESTING. The "What Was I Wrong About in March of 2003 Game." The game seems to have morphed, as well, into the "What Was I Saying About the War in March 2003? Game."
March 2003 was when I disappeared my blog from public access and only people with passwords were reading. So what was I writing about? What was I right about? And what was I wrong about?
Well, mostly I wrote poetry type things, and about Spring on the West Coast, the new album I was writing, and the dying of Nero tha Dobie. But of course, I did write about our wars, too.
This was just after I moved to the West Coast for the first time, as an adult.

the sun is sinking...the huge fir tree outside the window is also my clock. the orange light of the sun washes across it wonderfully. and no matter how many times i see it...it always looks beautiful. it always renews me. the west coast feels so vast to me. what with all of its tall, tall trees, cliffs, and wild winds. i am a world away from new york city.
me and the dog play the same old games. he pretends he understands nothing but his primal need to eat everything in the house and i pretend i don't understand his condition.

and the scariest part is how happy Bush is. he is absolutely gloating. he is in his glory. he loves war. and he will not stop with Iraq. and he will not be kept from Iraq. it does not matter how unpopular his war is. this is as good as done. and who is next? will the pig rolling in shit give it up to sit idly under a food-lamp? no. he will roll on to....sudan? syria? iran? north korea? does anyone really know? no. but remember the cause and effect i spoke of earlier. you cannot escape your other hand.
Then, written on March 20, 2003 11:03 PM, we have War, the Sequel:
well. yes, it's all very fascinating. terribly fascinating. war as reality television. i'm hooked. definitely hooked. [...]
so we sat around in the motel room and watched the war start, dipping into a bag of pistachio nuts as the first cruise missiles were launched. i forgot, after a bit, if i was watching a sports event or a war. the lines got very blurry. with statements like "Well! We're almost out of time -- just like Saddam Hussein!" before the commercial break, the whole thing took on very interesting taint. [...] "great drama." i said, as i shucked the shell from yet one more tasty chartreuse nut. i wiggled my sockfeet and waited anxiously for a huge plume of greenish fire on the set.
From —thoreau is my favorite terrorist, written on March 23, 2003 3:44 PM:
so what now? what do we do? drag a sign into the street? what if everyone in america who opposed the war STOPPED WORKING? stopped feeding the machine? how long do you think that would take to end the war? that's too scary, right? that's too painful, right? (rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat!) ah. if only we could really be so ballsy again...we might see real change.
Well? I did my part to stop working! ;)
It continues with a quote from Thoreau:
"If a thousand men were not to pay their tax bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood."
isn't it funny? you watch Apartheid...the Nazis....hijacking situations...you wonder how so few people can rule over so many. you say to yourself "don't they realize if they all got together, nobody could stop them?" if they could only unite, they could not be suppressed and abused any longer.
"The authority of government [...] must have the sanction and consent of the governed. It can have no pure right over my person and property but what I concede to it."
people could simply revolt. with action, rather than posterboard.
but...that's what got us here in the first place. which kind of makes you think.
does it ever end?
Right? Wrong? The war rages on. My being right and wrong remains as consequential as it seems in the face of that.

That rain puddle is mesmerizing. While I think people in the population were comprehending the situation in our foreign policy, it's too easy to look back now and say things we did wrong. It's not dealing with how to stop the war now.
