966 Bees in the Shade
Categorized under Ciencia , Stories | Tags: Bees
WHOA. Maybe colonies of bees move around this time of year, and I'm unfamiliar with the whole idea. But I just had quite an exciting moment.
I remember when I was about 10, and there was all this talk of Killer Bees from Africa that might land on our shores any day. It got me a little tense at the time, looking out for them. But I forgot about it eventually, and as we can see, it was probably a bit overhyped.
I was just out in the garden and I thought I heard an odd droning sound. I ignored it for a moment, but it began to surround me and I finally looked up as the bzzzzhummmmm got louder and closer. It was a cloud of bees filling the sky above me like...like bees filling the sky! I never saw anything like it. I tore ass into the house so quick I cut my finger on something.
Freaky!

Consider it a blessing, just last week scientists were talking about how the bee population has actually declined.
Regardless though, bee stings aren't to thrilling.
Having lived in Texas I have some bad runs in with Wasps though. And I don't mean White Anglo Saxon People(s) either.

I saw that once years ago when I was your age. I'm going to take this as a sign that we are not really doomed. There's been so much talk lately about the bees vanishing, and how if they do, mankind will only last four more years.
Isn't life truly weird and wonderful?

Stella, I've never seen anything about that. Why would mankind only last 4 years?

Pat, you've not read about the Colony Collapse phenomenon? I should post on it, I've been meaning to.
Bees are necessary to our food chain. Pollenization. Strange stuff is happening all over with bees. Unexplainable so far. Dying out.

Whoa. So *that's* where all the bees have gone. To your house!
There is a tree I pass by (or, rather, under) on my walk to the store that, at certain times of year, is just full of bees. I hate it, because when it's flowering it has a stench (although some call it a "scent" - different strokes for different noses, I guess) and... well, when it's stinking it is usually full of bees. And I dislike bees.
I am wondering if they will appear this year tho... am waiting to see. I hope so.
