We have Garageband and play with that sometimes and it's so fun, but of course, we don't make anything at all like what you've made here.

who knows anything about music? all we know is what we feel. that's what music is about. if you mean technically, well...you dont have to know how to play or mix music to enjoy it, right?

my gear:

- mac G5 (2 screens)
- Apple Logic recording software (Garageband's Pro version, basically)
- TASCAM mixing board
- yamaha keyboards
- ART preamp
- Shure SM58 mic
- and of course all my guitars and basses and various instruments.

so, yes, done using a computer for the multi-track software, and the benefit of loops and such, and mostly the non-linear environment. my older music (about 7 albums online) was much more analog, and involved less computers, some of it none. but i move around in style.

Yeah, 14. BTW, I think the FBI and the NSA are scoping me out! My daily downloads rate hover around 3-8, but last Thursday it spiked to 75! No carry over to other programs yet, although its hard to track audience with blip.tv statistics tools (their revamping that section as we speak). I'll have to put a "hot tamale" warning on my next show!

Well its pretty simple, I usually take a sample, probably the opening 5-15 secs of music, and then use that to break up the different parts of the program and then I reproduce the entire song at the very end thus giving the listerner a choice to stick around and listen to it or do something else. I also plug the song, artist and source (I use the Podsafe Music Network for most of my music) along with email address and blog.

Although my spike might be related to my particiaption in blogs against theocracy, but not all of them where realated that one show so your guess is as good as mine.

That is some incredibly sweet mixing, bro. I love the way you did the voice synthesizing, and the drum synth packs a punch. Gives the song this Daft Punk feel, and the message is right on. Do the singing parts build a little in volume as the song progresses, or am I having an early onset of hearing loss? :-p The clip integration frames the song so well. You knocked the ball out of the park! :D

'mano that was cool. Now you just need to make a movie like Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi. Forget the book, ese, make a movie. If you need money, you can volunteer for those pharmacutical studies, that is how he did it.

wouldn't having a hearing loss mean the volume would decrease as you went on in the song? ;) i think you may be right that the last verses are louder. hope that doesn't bother you. i'll have to listen again a few times and see how it strikes me. in a way i dont mind because of the natural build in a song. but if it bothers me, i'll change it.

You would think. When I attended undergrad, it seem like that was the in thing to do for quick money. When Xmas time came around, all you would hear on the radio were these little promo ads on making quick money to buy Xmas presents just by being part of a clinical studies. When some of us heard how he made the money to make El Mariachi, we all laughed. I guess he is having the last laugh now, huh.

RIckB, I uploaded this to a podcast service that uses independently produced music (and hey, the next day I get an email that it was featured on a podcast in the UK!) and I had NO idea what genre to put it under. i sat and stared at that list for like fifteen minutes. this is the trouble i used to have when i put my music online.

I hate the genre thing, I always remove that field in itunes, I said it was ska-ish to me, but that really is just me, it's also dance-y, those drums do a good job, plus of course political (what category would you put dancehall-ish indie remixes of Gil Scott Heron? It's kinda like that). So really I'm no help, pigeon holing is after all a marketing imposed schema and not really how people think about what music they like. If I look at what I've just listened to I get -Aram Khachaturian, cocteau twins, darkstar, lamb, Don Ellis, new order, Public Enemy, Waterboys, Sheila E, underworld, Stina Nordenstam, Shellac, Sly & the family Stone. Makes no sense!
