From the moment of birth, when the stone-age baby confronts the twentieth-century mother, the baby is subjected to these forces of violence, called love, as its mother and father have been, and their parents and their parents before them. These forces are mainly concerned with destroying most of its potentialities. This enterprise is on the whole successful.
some of his thinking mirrors my own understandings (remember "How to Create A Rape Victim"?) and i was not exposed to him until very recently. as i'm sure you've experienced, when this happens it is like coming home in a way, breathing in the fresh air of recognition and acknowledgment. you feel you have found truths on your own and further, that you must read this writer to find what other things you, perhaps, should be thinking. of course it doesn't mean i'll agree with everything (nor that i ought to), but i'm sure i can get a lot out of reading his thoughts, esp as he has spent years delving into and outlining these types of dynamics (many of which were controversial at the time he did). so i look forward to further reading.
