Kindergarten Class Pwns the MinuteMensos
Categorized under Frontera , Raza , Viernes Noche Música | Tags: Hope, Mexico, YouTube
FOR OUR FRIDAY You-Tube treat, I give you a stand-off between a sidewalk full of lame Minutemens@s and a playground of young children, whose unflagging cheer of ¡México! ¡México! ¡México! brought tears to my eyes by the time the vid was over. This wasn't really because of the name of the country they were shouting (though I make happy faces imagining the brows of the MinutiaMen). It was more the happy spirit of defiance coming from the mouths and hearts of the new generation.
There's just something magical about seeing a solid, stolid, aging, fearful bunch of adults penned in by police—probably rocking on their creaky knee bones—and having to listen to such vibrant and energetic challenge; having to stare the hope of youth in the face. You can hear one woman complain "Oh my god..." and I don't know if she says "we're patriots over here" or "we're paying for their education!" but either way, if words were colors, hers would be a dim mildew-concrete shade fading, and the cheers of l@s niñ@s would be a tumble of blazing crimson, sparkling emerald, and cool azul.
It's a new day in the Americas, amig@s! As a wise man once said, Get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand.
From YouTube: "Little kids stand up for their parents after the minutemen go harass migrants at the Mexican Consulate in the city of Santa Ana."

Now that's what I call grassroots activism! Those kids are awesome. I wanna buy them 10 playgrounds.

De nada. I must admit my eyes swolled up and I had that lump in my throat too because the precious resilient children represent hope. Hope we haven't seen in a while and are due. They understand racism, they understand tribulations and yet their WILL to survive and thrive; supercedes all negativity. Only children can protest like that...high energy while still enjoying their playground activities. They didn't miss a beat or the opportunity to put Minutemensos in their place.
To them I say "Gracias y Dios lo bendiga".

i saw this gem last week, and it gave me a glimmer of hope that manifest/destiny/colonialism may finally be losing its foothold on this hemisphere... and ps. Sr. K-jonez, the origin of 'Mexico' is not about a bordered up country or tract of land ... its origin is in the people (the original inhabitants of 'america' ) thats something we all feel in our hearts regardless of the assimaltion/brainwash of the colonial institutions

hi tizoc. i'm not sure how you are using the word "origin" here—origin of the name "México"?; or origin as "reason", i.e., the reason the kids were shouting it? or in some other way? it slips away from me when i try to understand your paragraph. but as far as borders, i think we all know how i feel about those here. you've been reading a while, now.
yeah...i only wish we "ALL" felt it in our hearts my friend. i know you and i do. as i said, the video moved me very much. no doubt, we both think it is a "gem."
"K-jonez"?

"We're paying for their education" - well, why not? We're also colluding with Mexican elites and transnational corporations to drive their parents out of Mexico
- if in fact their parents *are* from what is now Mexico, they could be, ancestrally, from right there in OC.

This is awesome. I would much rather live in a country full of high-spirited kids than with a bunch of cranky-pants entitled-ass assholes. The lame-ass "This is America!" arguments can't hold those kids down.

sorry about the ambiguity, i guess i was being vague about the 'origins' but it works fine as a double-entendre just the same// (as for the play on phonics) i like refering to you as Sr. K-jonez 'cuz i believe it takes 'some'/// actually 'plenty of cojones' to deliver your unfiltered message daily

jeje. thanks. when i say it to myself, i say it with spanish inflection, "nay-swa lee-mone ho-la-gra-fee-ka-hon-ays"
i guess the "PS" confused me, as if you were contradicting my post, but again, i think we very much agree on that. thanks for clarifying.

I first saw this video on May 1st over at the Immigration Watchdog blog and just like Nez was deeply moved by the courage displayed by these children. The video was shot by Naui who in my opinion deserves a gold star for agitating the hell out of The Minutemen at their every step. The truth to the matter though is that the Minutemen don't really need Naui or us as their enemies because their own leaders Jeff Schwilk and Chris Simcox create far more damage to their own ill advised cause.
Anyone who cares to read the hate filled and racist comments directed at the kids in the video, their school teachers and their parents can do so at this comment thread. It's amazing to read the hate filled and racist comments and realize that these people actually consider themselves human. Then I'm reminded that Nazi's also did not think they were doing anything wrong during their quest for a Master Race.

Wow... that was amazingly powerful to watch and it brought tears to my eyes as well. And you know, I have to say thanks to that woman, because I wasn't aware that the Minutemen were the original people of this nation and that they are the only people who pay taxes or support education... I'll have to remember that from now on and stay in my place.
But anyway, thank you for putting this up and giving us more hope for the future.

Haven't commented in awhile... a lot of thought bombs dropped around this place lately, i felt well over my head and then I see this. Hope of children trumps the bitterness and fear of the adults.
God bless them all....

I just sent a letter of support and solidarity to the principal of that school-- The MM Morons are talking about getting her fired and shutting the school down. I bet that she's getting a lot of hate mail right around now-- so maybe we should all send her some kind words.
Her email is dumais[at]oceaa[dot]org.

Nezua, I had to share this with you as soon as she showed it to me. My eleven year old daughter has been watching what's going on with the immigration issue, apparently even more than I thought she was, and she wrote something on her blog that I think you might like to see. I've been sick in bed today and her dad came and told me that I needed to see what she just showed him. I think that you will like it. I find it so amazing that in the first political post she has ever written (her blog is mostly about the goings on at her school) she has chosen to write about this. I thought it was bad enough when I didn't post about the immigration issue on May day but now I'm feeling totally shame-faced because even my daughter has done it before me.
I'm a little sick right now but I'll do my part when I'm a bit better. Meanwhile, you can see what she wrote here on her blog:
Native Americans And Their Suffering
Feel free to leave her a comment too. She'd get a big kick out of that!

Bint that came from an 11 year old, WOW! She is more aware of what is happening in the US than most adults. The other thing, you can tell what she wrote is all original thought and not some parroted meme that a large majority of anti-immigration folks can only do. How proud you must be of your daughter!!!
