Hey, it was a major breakthrough when he realized that raising the minimum wage might be a GOOD thing. Now we're waiting for him to figure out that giving all workers, documented or not, the right to sue their employers for crappy working conditions, will eventually benefit ALL workers: white, brown, black, and yellow.

Once he figures that out, he'll magically transform into the love child of Cesar (or Hugo) Chavez and John Maynard Keynes, and all his former buddies will suffer Exploding Head Syndrome.

Same point I made to my father just two days ago Rachel. What better way to justify yourself as NOT being racist than to marry into the race that you criticize the most? For some reason people tend to think this gives them some "honorary minority" pass that they can use at their discretion. I makes me vomit when people who are racist use others that are of the race they CLEARLY despise to justify their thinly-veiled hate-filled comments as being valid critiques.

Interesting. So does the VDARE.com writer, Alan Wall. This isn't the place to go off on a riff on Mr. Wall, but I've noticed a lot of right-wingers with Mexicana wives go off on THEIR riffs about the "white Spanish overclass" -- which I've knocked myself out proving is a myth (the rich folks tend to be less indigenous than the poor folks, but are hardly Spaniards, and aren't adverse to "marrying out of their race" -- not with other rich folks, anyway!). I'm wondering if they aren't the kind of people that seek dominance by "conquering" the dusky race, but at the same time, need to justify in their own minds (and in public) that their spouse is their social equal.

Then again, maybe Wall and Dobbs are just assholes.

Richard, they are assholes. But alot of people are exposed to their point of view.

I just had a conversation recently with a white guy married to a Puerto RIcan woman, and I got to listen to him tell me how he doesn't even think of her as being Puerto Rican, blah, blah, blah. Then his friend comes down (this guy doesn't know I'm married to a black man) and starts bitching about how our neighborhood (specifically the bus stop, which is all black and Latino) is like a "fucking Third World country."

The whole exchange was awful, but I think guys like Dobbs and this guy I was talking to think of their partner's as honorary whites. I'm dying to know if their partners think of themselves in that way, as well.

And for the record, it's not just Chicanas. There are plenty of Chicanos who do the same thing, with the honorary white mentality. I guess the race/gender dynamic may change things a little, when the couple is white woman, Latino, but I don't want to overgeneralize about people who intermarry. It just people like Dobs that kill me.

As for Dobbs wife, and I know many relationships like this, she is probably willing to overlook his fault(s) for many reasons. But this is more than a matter of something like "my moms cooking tastes better than your moms". Dobbs position is one that affects a nation of people. One that feeds fears and prejudices and one that continues the cycle of division. From what I've read Dobbs has been married to this lady for 25 years.

Looks to me like the Hispanic Journalists Association is in SERIOUS need of some new leadership. Selling their soul for only $5,000? It should've cost a devil like Dobbs way more than that. If I was a member of it, I would resign today and organize all my friends to do the same.
