The Contagion of Colonial Thought
Categorized under El Malestar Pálido , Medios | Tags: Mexicans, racism, White Supremacy
SOME MIGHT LAUGH at a commercial like this (I did, thanks Kev), and then dismiss it, saying "Good thing we fired Imus don't allow commercials like that on the air anymore! That was the 60s, before we were enlightened, back when racism existed in America."
Here is a recent comment left on my blog by someone calling themselves "Daryn Moerike" which can be found on this page:
You are contagion. Just because you breed like flies does not give you the right to invade America in an attempt to drag it down to your level. You third-worlders need to learn something. You are not our equal. We were made to go to college. You were made to pick strawberries. That's the natural order of things. Accept it. After all, if mexicans were decent people - mexico would be a decent place to live.
I guess what impresses me the most about the human condition is that one can manage grammar and typing skills just fine, but the intellectual capacity can yet remain on the level of a pre-typing age organism.
"We were made to go to college."
Yes, you were. And you were also made to listen to what they tell you there. And to accept it. And to believe it. And you were made to carry that information out into the world and live it. And to die believing it. You were made to be a slave, a mental captive to whatever filthy philosophy or lack of same is impressed upon your servile brain. You still have not escaped. And you want to jail me with your slow, gray, hopeless, heartless thoughts. But you are the one chained, Daryn. I hope you can see this one day. Until then, enjoy your salad. Maybe I'll bump into you on Spring Break. I'll keep a thousand eyes open.

Good gods.
Daryn, did you actually learn anything in that college you were made to go to?
I learned a hell of a lot when I went. Most notably that I wasn't the center of the universe.
Too bad you didn't learn shit.

Heh.
I am all for the college thing, in general. It's not for everyone, but for those as need it, it can be life changing. [Insert ed-theory rant here]
But dude, one of the least taught college things (right behind "how to take care of your own damn self") is "how not to be an asshole" (or "how to interact with people who aren't you," for those with people-specific asshole qualities). While there's a lot of justification for not doing the explicit teaching of these things there (you should know it already; it's the family's job; nobody's going to agree on how it should be taught; how the hell do you grade that, anyway?), there's absolutely none for not learning it. (Okay, unless you went to Bob Jones University or the like).
Aaaanyway, digressions aside... this is just silly. Unless he was using the phrase "made to" in the sense of "forced to," the whole comment is ludicrous. Not to mention poor form, for a troll. Neither funny enough for the "can't you take a joke?" defense nor absurd enough for the "It's supposed to be satire" defense, it also lacks the force to demand response. Granted, location and the nature of the community do demand response, but it's... a weak flame, at best. 3/10, and that's being generous.

It always amazes me how these so called intellects always use so called "higher intelligence" to justify thier thoughts. No compasion, no thought provoking change to better the world. There's a name for these people: ROBOTS.

Well it is illustrative of one thing. Wealth equals good, lack of wealth evil. Those who have money and are "successful" are good people, those that do not are bad people (add loads of racisms to the mix as well). Of course that would make all those Anglos that got displaced during the Great Depression evil as well or at least unclean. Farmers who lost their farms and executives whose businesses went belly up reduced to picking fruit in California or pouring cement in Hoover Dam would be equally inferior I guess....
May he never loose his privileged place for then he would suffer the wrath of his own vision....

According to The Google! a person calling themselves Daryn Moerike drops the odd comment like this around,

he's a fame troll.
(Maybe it's Michael Richards or Imus between lawyer meetings trying to decide how sorry he feels and whether that means suing for 100mil or just 50, what a mensch.)

I don't get comments like this. When I do, I know I should ignore the trolls and not feed into their hate, but it still feels like a violation. If anyone thinks this racism is totally divorced from opinions on immigration, then they haven't been reading blog comments.

I think I saw Daryn once. He was wearing one of those t-shirts that says "I Are a College Student". JAJA! He is right though about us "Third-Worlders" not being his equal. We are clearly his SUPERIORS when it comes to intellect. Hmmm...no wonder he feels so frightened and vulnerable.

During the Great Depression? Two words: White Trash.
Being poor is still evil.
(If Gravatar will ever start working again, I have an avatar that should go great with this comment, me being one of the evil poor.)

Daryn is a sick, sick boy... who also leaves a trail that's easy to follow with your friendly "google."
Here's his post on a innocuous "Free Martha Stewart" petition site:
In reply to a post on Briar Patch Magazine dealing with urban ecology, our boy posted
On Western Standard, a right-wing site from very, very conservative Alberta -- dealing with Canadian oil (Alberta being the Texas of Canada), Daryl outdid himself:
He seems to have some "anger issues", but doesn't have the cojones to leave contact information on this site, on Martha Stewart's site, or on the Briar Patch. However, he did leave his e-mail address (dkmoerike@hotmail.com ) on the Alberta site.
Play nice? ¿Porque?

Empire KKKollege sure teaches typing good, everything else? Not so much. How will he feel about the 'natural order' when China calls in the debt...

'Daryn', what a fool, college eh ? he's been copying/paying for the scantron answers and prewritten term papers for his school years . Even in regular public high school, students get introduced to the many darksides of this country and its 'origins'. And if Mexico was such a bad place to live, why did millions of Europeans cross the Atlantic to conquer it from us? and why do the indigenous people still exist? because the genocide and assimilation (although the largest scale in written history) wasn't completed

Zaecus - the term "poor white trash" didn't die with the Great Depression - it was still in use in the 50's and 60's when I was a child - frequently directed at my family.

One of the most irritating things about the dreck about how there is no decent Latino culture, philosophy, science, etc., is that one hears it at the university, from professors, too. And it is so ignorant, sometimes I have a whole rap going about it, shouting names of famous people, Avicena, Cervantes, Velasquez, and right on up.

I'll go hang out with my Two-Thirds World pals now and, uh, breed. (Subtext much? We were out having sex while poor little gosling Daryn was deep in those hypothetical college books?)
