We Don't Need No Stinkin' Passports!

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PASSPORT, you now have until 2009 to travel down México way with a bit less of a problem.

WASHINGTON, June 14 (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate committee on Thursday voted to put off until mid-2009 passport requirements for U.S. travelers entering the United States by land or sea from Canada and other neighboring countries.

The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved the delay to June 1, 2009 because of a huge backlog in issuing new U.S. passports. That snarl followed another rule change -- tightening requirements for some air travel by U.S. citizens -- earlier this year.

US Senate panel pushes new delay in passport rule, Reuters

Good. A small sigh of relief. And not just because this makes travel to México easier. I really find all this increased surveillance and control in our world both disgusting and depressing. I have nothing "to hide," I just get a bit down thinking that the world I live in is one that cannot "work" without powermongers inspecting and judging and influencing our every move. It would be one thing if they were either competent or intelligent or kind. But they are not. And who made this their planet, anyway?

I wouldn't recommend 'traveling to Mexico while Hispanic' without a passport, though. I've heard too many horror stories from friends of mine trying to get back into the US (some who weren't even Hispanic, just dark enough they 'might be illegal').

Drive a nice conservative car with the baby in the back, US plates, and be REAL respectful. Oh, and you're wife's white, iirc. You should be okay.

But yeah, if you can, get the papers.

i was thinking we'd strap the baby to the roof? but putting her in the back...thats a good idea. ;)

seriously, i would be super polite in any country i was in aside from USA. i never understood how people travel to another nation and act in any way rude or presumptuous. i am not "american" in that sense. although i think once upon a time, i was.

LOL I meant on the way back into the US. I didn't see you as the 'ugly American'.

At least at the San Diego border, they mostly just wave you through unless you fit a profile. I don't know how they do it elsewhere.

The idea I got is if you look Joe Suburban, you're okay.

As a U.S. citizen I always carry my passport when traveling to the U.S. Its easier since my photo I.D. is in Spanish.

So much to say about the powermongering bureaucracy and the Kafkaesque police agencies ALL AROUND THE WORLD, and so little time to just live in peace. As Lennon said, Imagine there's no countries....
