Hecticity
Categorized under YKos2007 | Tags: YearlyKos 2007
AND THE LAST DAY TO PACK turns out to be just as crazy as I thought. Spent most of this morning hooking up the laptop and making sure I have everything I need, access to ftp, applications, passwords, bookmarks. Not perfect, but I think I have what is crucial. At the same time, hitting a few graphic design projects and also trying to keep Lil 'Nita occupied, who comes behind me un-neatening or unpacking or mixing up what I've separated. (Or DRINKING FROM THE TOILET wut????) It's a slow going with a hectic feel. What an odd cocktail. Cleaner than the sink, and twice as hard on your nervous system.
At the same time, communicating with the rest of the "Chicago 17" about what time we get in, the unfairness of welcome parties with fees, nature of exclusive events, how ratty we'll look in our clothes, which candidate to sit in on with (obama? clinton? richardson? edwards? all these are at the SAME TIME! so i can't choose all or even two, i wanted to see obama and richardson), getting comped on tickets so that the world is fair again, (as I commented to Lambert today, "as long as there is champagne, there can be change," and after all, comp tickets to an open bar welcome party is like the high class version of the "NEED MONEY FOR BEER" sign, right?) and realizing what Ykos actually is/potentially is, as I said "Yes" without really thinking toooo much about those things, just saw it as an adventure. Which it is already, sure, but what I mean is I didn't realize what would follow, both in terms of social fallout, nor in what I would actually be doing there. (As I said "I'm a hellcat, Jim! Not an Activist!" and don't ask me what a hellcat is) But it's cool. I am using the shooting of a documentary as a spine for my journey. Forming a core "question," such as the one I was asked when interviewed yesterday by OpenLeft: "Do you think there is a point in trying to bridge these two blogworlds, the mainstream and the brown blogosphere"?

I laughed, thinking of the "Nez for Sale" sign that someone had spraypainted on my new KosLexus. "That is the question, isn't it?" And thought it would make a damn good theme for the doc, but it might not be big enough. I think it will make a good subtheme. But I said, yes, I guess I think there is hope. Do I think it will make a difference that I personally am there? Hm, not really. (Aside from ustedes getting some schnazzy poolside shots of my feet, of course.) But some of my readers have made sure to let me know they have hope in what I am doing. For them, if nothing else, I have to have hope that there is a point. There you go.
Aside from this, I love an excuse to shoot a good documentary. And drink champagne. Mmmmhmm—the taste of People Power.

I can hardly wait to read of your experiences at this YearlyKos gig. If I were going, let's just say you're one of the cats I'd want to kick it with. As it is, I'll be starting the journey back to the panhandle of OK with my wife and the three young ones after a nice stay out in the O.C.
Have a safe trip!

enjoy the journey, man. thanks.

The camera looks great. Enjoy the champagne and the whole diversion. Yes, I do think the fact that you are going there does make a difference.
Too bad all the candidates are appearing at the same time. But you can clone yourself over the winter, have a few doubles, and next year, still before the elections, return in multiple personality and confront all the candidates that are still in the race.
Just an idea.
I need a few more of myself too but I am not sure where one goes for this service.

I'll be watching for you on c-span. So wave at the camera when you get the chance.
Of course, I can't wait to read your musings on the experience. My best advice...duck when the pie starts flying!! Just kidding of course. I'm one of those that found the blogosphere via dailykos, but eventually realized that the level of testosterone was too much for me. Still, there are some people who will be there that I would love to meet, like you and kid oakland to name a couple. Have a ball!!

i hear you. and trust me, i am not, as a whole, inspired by the Dailykos.com site or agenda, nor do i necessarily feel allied with the site's worldview (not that i am sure what that is), or level of testosterone, as you say. people here know i avoid those fur-flying type threads like the plague. not to say it is an "evil" site, nor that there are not a lot of well-meaning people, i think there are. but hey. it's a huge (mainstream) crowd. i'm not always a huge crowd person, as it is, let alone the WHITEPROGRESSIVE crowd, as they often been pretty ign'ant on some of the issues i find important just so that is understood.
but mostly, i dont really see this event as a 3D version of DailyKos. god i hope not.
and thank you!

I babysat my 15 month old nephew yesterday and i was peeling his little fingers off the toilet bowl everytime I turned around! yuck!
And what the hell is the "brown blogosphere"? So mainstream is the "white blogoshere"? Is there a yellow and red and multicolorblogosphere as well? :)
Anyways, you sound like you are having quite the adventure! and, yeah, nice camera. Remember Nez, "The role of the revolutionary artist is to make the revolution irresistible." --I keep seeing this Bambara quote around, in random places, like it is following me but today I'm gonna pass it along to you. Have a great trip.

well, luisa, to be fair to jenifer, who interviewed, me, it was me who brought up the "brown blogosphere," as you know i do speak of it here. and when i do, i include just about all the non-white peeps, from yellowish (i can get yellowish in winter, i think) to reddish, etc. just as i say "The Brown™" and hope to include asians, latinos, and most other non-"white" peoples. so dont get too mad at them! yet. ;)
i love your quote. and as always, your friendship. and claws and teeth!

Cereal! HaHa, that's my 20 year old son's nickname, I wonder if you're using it in the same context.
Have fun, be your real self and you can't get on trouble with those of us who support you 100%, not to put any pressure or anything.
So, the convention will be on C-span, cool to know. Your represnt the grassroots chicanos (chicanas too), to have someone there with your sensibility is a treat because we matter too.
By the way, any container full of water is a baby magnet, I learned that the hard way.
