Masterblaster (Jammin')

TAKIN THE WAYBACK MACHINE to 1982—Stevie Wonder rocks the house of otherwise calm peoples. By the end even the white wimmenz showin greasy shift in las caderas! The seat cannot contain this beat! Woohoo! Dig all the Doodes clappin' hard! How do they do it? I would be up on my feet. For this jammie? Live Stevie? Damn. What self control! On everyone's part.
There's nothing like the smile of a musician lost in his art. Especially Stevie Wonder. I love how he raises his fists and just goes off at the "adlib" at the end (was originally an adlib, but he reproduces it just like the wax track here, and still heartfelt, a real musician/performer). And the cats with horns? So hip. The women singers/dancers? Beauty in motion and sound. I have to admit, I've been ruined* since about six for multiple black woman backup singers. Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths and Rita Marley—the women who provided the amazing backup vox for all of Marley's music—imprinted this on me throughout most of my childhood, I think! Rebel Music, as mi blogmigo said the other day. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!Three O' Clock roadblock! Them Belly Full But We Hungry! Ain't got no birth surfaticket on me, now!
Turn it up. Take your shirt off. Dance in the sunbeam. Yeah! Right now! Let the tyranny of dance reign over your frame! Damn. I can make every joint in my skeleton pop on this number. Stevie the Remote MasterChiropracta. And his ten big cans of Shake Tha Rafta.

Somehow I use "ruined" in this sense paradoxically. Like "ruined for anything else aside from—." Or "I've been utterly predisposed to—" I'm not sure how I developed this sense of "ruined for." Odd. But I realized reading back now at 14:33 that unless you know of this, it reads opposite as it should. Or rather, that I've taken to using it opposite to its understood meaning.

i *love* stevie. i have his greatest hits album on my ipod. it is a great album to own (but doesn't have that song he wrote for the Outsiders soundtrack:(
i saw him at the airport once. he walked by me and a woman sitting across the way waved to him. thinking of her still makes me smile.
he wasn't born blind. when he was a newborn, the doctors put too much oxygen in the incubator (or whatever that thingie is), it burnt his eyes.
rock on stevie, rock on.
