The Hottest ______ Ever!

Categorized under Palabras , Planeta | Tags: ,

imgLOCAL NEWS is telling us that we here in Western Oregon are in a heat wave. Fire warnings. Triple digits.

Thinking of going to the coast tomorrow. Normally, it's insanely windy and cold there, the frigid beach winds blasting an unrelenting series of sandy gales over your shivering, regret-ridden frame. Your lengthy drive, upon which you entertained a series of beach-lit vignettes in your mind, ultimately nets you a chagrined (and freezing) five minutes on the alien shore. Seriously, it reminds me of some hellish Star Trek set come to life. But tomorrow, it is supposed to be a strange, rare ninety-something on the coast, itself (it's over 100 today here). So we figure we'll go to take advantage of what will be an insanely windy and warm day at the beach! Right on. We won't catch on fire of course, we'll just get sanded down to a nice, smooth shape. Take that, beach bully! I'm not even 96 pounds anymore and terribly aerodynamic! Look at my grain! Just a rag and some linseed oil and I'd be brilliant!

Well, at least the (non-existent) global warming trend will make places like Florence, Oregon tropical before it cooks us all proper. Well, not quite tropical. More like...freakin' strange and uninhabitable. Come visit the hot, humid, sandy hurricane-torn beaches of Florence! Get smooth!

It's very hot here too, but I am at 18 degrees north, but where Nez is it is hotter. It may be time to plant some Limon trees. Take advantage of that global warming up there. A Canadian is visiting me today and he complains it is hot up in Montreal until November now. Well hey, drink a Pina Colada, get in the ocean or pool and play any kind of tropical music {salsa, reggae, merengue, calypso} while you imagine you are staying at a 5 star resort hotel. Hope you feel better!

And I thought it was hot down here. We have had a very strange years so far, a wet dry season, a extremely humid but rain free summer and who knows what hurricane season might bring. They are even talking about water rationing soon. Take it easy on the beach Nez, you might be brown but you still can burn!

I think my little corner of the U$ is actually staying "seasonal" as far as temps go (the OK panhandle is supposed to have high temps running in the mid 90s), but damn it sure has been humid. Heck, until mid-June I could actually find running water in some of the normally dry creeks - even on days where it hadn't been raining, and parts of the northeastern Texas panhandle were flooded out during May and early June.

You gonna go to "Lawrence of Florence" for the camel rides? I spend a night at the Dunes there and after supper I decided to walk down to the water's edge, so I just went up over the dune and then down its other side and went up over the dune and down its other side. Finally, after about fifteen or twenty minutes of slogging I found the water and I thoroughly enjoyed walking around all the huge drift logs and looking at the marine life in the tidal pools. Then I decided it was time to go back to my campsite and at that moment realized that the dunes all looked the same and that there was an overcast and thus no sun (forget that boyscout navigating by the stars stuff) for me to use as a refere nce. I didn't panic though, because I suddenly realized that in a trackless wasteland there was one set of tracks--mine.

Over here, the humidity is very high. All you had to do was walk a few feet and your already out of breath and soaking wet. It is nuts. Last week, in fact, most of May and June we had non-stop rain.

It's just about Perfect in San Diego, the overcast lasts until a bit before noon and the rest of the day is beautiful. Meanwhile in the mountains they're dying, too unseasonably hot!
