By 2010, Latinos in the United States will have a cumulative purchasing power bigger than the economies of Canada or Mexico, the president of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says.'Hispanic businesses have considerable economic influence,' Michael L. Barrera told Efe, 'and we simply want to make U.S. corporations see how big this market is, one of the biggest economies in the world.'
At present, one of every 10 small businesses in the United States is Hispanic-owned. The total number of Hispanic-run firms in the country is approximately 2 million, a figure expected to climb to 3.2 million by 2010.
The regions where these businesses are concentrated continue to be California, Texas and Florida, although Barrera said that 'surprising growth is occurring in the country's southeast, in states like Georgia and North Carolina.'"

Back to that news you posted from the USHCofC. If there are that many businesses out there and that much money and power, perhaps more of it should be getting channeled to candidates that are not hostile to the voting block's interests.

It's a trend I've been noticing in the north Texas panhandle, Oklahoma panhandle, and southwest Kansas (think of Dorothy's home in The Wizard of Oz) that's really taken off over the past three or four years. The business run the gamut from small food markets, to car dealerships and mechanics, to coffee shops, to restaurants (as a side note I noticed a new Guatamalan joint just 10 miles north of me on highway 54 in Guymon that mi familia will have to check out when the money situation isn't so tight).
Our Hispanic brothers and sisters will continue to flex their economic and political muscles in the region in spite of the ICE and the nativist assholes.
