& img; border=IT IS REALLY UNFORTUNATE that my last crucial meeting, that of the Chicago 17 just sort of kicking it and wrapping up, is happening at the same time that the Minutemen are having a "protest" outside the Mexican consulate here in Chicago. (Thanks to amigo XP for tipping me off to it.) While I am not required to attend the Chicago 17 wrapup, I want to, I need to film it to add an important part to this film I'm going to put together. I also find out just now that somehow we scheduled at the same time that the Hispanic/Immigration panel is going on!! Agh! So many empty spaces in my schedule and now three things at once?? Very frustrating.

Gots to go now, I have to shower away the nightlife from my aching frame. I also have some engaging stories to tell you about last night, and one involves a very well known WHITEPROGRESSIVE who was extremely rude to me, lied, and is now (sorry Chris, nah, I'm not) going to have his lid blown. Lata.

UPDATE: To Chris' friends who are emailing me in defense of his general character, please don't sweat it. Firstly, I've calmed down, no more el train REM-destroyer, and next, I'm not out to be vile. I'm not here to character assassinate anyone. It's just not worth the energy after a few nights' sleep. I admire you sticking up for your friends. I appreciate that.

My POV on that experience may find itself a natural metaphorical expression of my Ykos doc's central theme and therefor, right in the midst the narrative of the film, itself...but it may not. Time will tell. I'm still not up to speed on sleep. At the same time, I am not really in doubt of what I experienced there. In either case, stop breaking my heart, will ya?

It sounds like an invaluable experience, ideally there should be a big meet up (a nexus indeed), but not under one (strict, party) blogs banner. Maybe that will come, it would be good.

So, they announced that next year the convention will be called: Netroots Nation...what do you think?

yes, i heard that. i really dont think i'm going back. and hard as it may be, i'm saving my commentary for the most part o how i say it in my documentary, about which i'm pretty excited, actually. '

i think the convention will improve, perhaps, in ratio of white/notwhite. but at a slow rate, and i'm thinking more along the lines of our own convention (maybe it would start really small?) that is not under a democratic banner ncecessariyl, as rafa said, and that is made mostly for TRUE progressive thinkers who are not white (tho nobody would be turned away, just like YearlyKos but in reverse) and talking more about change and ALL the ways to go about it through blogging. not just pandering and courting big party members. a whole differen thing, multi armed activism using efvfeyrone's strenghts and areas of affiliation at once. but those are just the spontaneous thoughts of an exhausted nez waiting for his second plane at ten pm....

Interesting. I think local conventions are the way to go. The moment you go NATIONAL...you're going to dilute everything back down to the ones in power...white, male, straight... Just by definition. They'll tend to be the ones with access to the time and money for the travel and so on.

Local conventions on the other hand will build networks among people in the same places, who know what the issues and problems are. And who can band together, to, for example, put pressure on the local congress critters and even the state ones as well...
