Radiate and Fade Away

I PLANNED ON POSTING A FEW STILLS from today, from the Latino Caucus, from the Press conference that Moulitsas held, from McCormick Hall, but it seems my digital still camera broke while in my bag (wheeee, but oh well, it was old, and a gift anyway), and of all the wires I did bring, I didn't bring my firewire connection from my deck. I did bring the deck, but not the cable to run it into the mac. Oh well. I am definitely putting together this doc, given I don't lose the damn tapes or something!
Anyway, I got it all on tape, and a bunch of fun stuff. I won't give anything away. But I will have my hands full editing. A client I spoke to on the phone was so happy with the ad I designed for him that he is throwing me a $110 bonus. (Hey, I told him I would make him something that sticks with people!) Anyway, I'll need that cash to buy me a new firewire drive because I'm coming home with a serious amount of video to edit and it won't even come close to fitting on my drive.
Met Governor Richardson's internet guy, Joaquín Guerrera. He came up to me after the caucus and talked to me, gave me his card, told me to stop by his booth and said he'd like to have a beer with me. (HEY people wanna have a beer with me. Is this a sign I'll be president one day? Now I just have to skip out of military service.) I thought that would be cool and told him so. He laughed over the name of my site as we said goodbye, but I think he remembered it as "The Angry Mexican." Might have had something to do with the way I was talking about a few things in that meeting. Anyway, it really was a fantastic meeting/caucus. I have to say, that hour or so made it all worth it to me. Real good stuff. We'll see what comes of it. Have to add a site or two to my blogroll, but that won't be happening until I get home. Oh, and one of the connections I made (D.C.) asked me if I knew of other Latin@ bloggers that I could bring in to their awareness. So, guess that means I'll be spreading the love. Because I know you all have been lovin me up so well.
Moulitsas, trying to say some pretty snazzy things about the "Left" (or his site, rather) that were, um, lies. I won't say anymore, I'll save it for the doc. (A very small piece of the doc.) No, I'm not out to bash him because he's Kos, or the Great Orange Satan. Shoot. I don't see him as the Great Orange anything, and really, I dont' want to bash anyone. To me he just seemed like a smug, snotty, tired-looking man. All I was thinking most of the time (aside from keeping an eye on the tapes, the sound levels, and the wires) was "I sure wish I had some questions to ask, I know people back home would want me to ask some" but I don't really follow his site or his words enough to even know. All I could rack up out of my brain was commenter Francis Holland's recent link and I thought to myself, trying the question out in my mind first, "Do you still believe gays are a danger to the military?" But everyone was asking questions about blogs, about "the frontrunners," about Lieberman and Clinton and the netroots.... It wasn't about him, the person. It would have been completely out of context, thrown everything into a strange spin, and not that I don't love the Strange Spin Cycle, but it just wasn't the right question. However, there were some good ones asked (mostly not) here and there, and I had a real good position, so I did catch some good stuff on tape that will certainly come in handy in the doc.
Met some good people here. Bernita, (who blogs at tondeestavern.com and blogfordemocracy.org), Matt Ortega (mattortega.com, a fella who helped oust Pombo), Jenifer Fernandez Ancona (HopePac, openleft.com), Rafael Collazo (brownplanet.net and we might go out to eat tomorrow night in the barrio), Kid Oakland, who pulled this thing together, Jose (a really sincere and groovy Mexican cat who has no green card), Carmen (allaboutrace.com and she took me to dinner it was yummy), and a few others.
It's been good getting out of the chair and seeing some people in the 3D. I think part of the ever-cycling drama online is simply due to too much blood settling into the ass cheeks, yeh. Because being there with these other Latinos all kicking it...Sylvia, you were right. Grounding, you said to me.
Sitting there I was like "what was all that bullshit again about me coming here?" It just suddenly seemed so silly. Because here we were, sure it was a small group. But there was real feeling and real discussion and we were even talking to some people who were connected. There was talk of familia and immigration, and a "safe space" private list for hashing out all our diverging feelings and opinions on Latino issues (this is the D.C. list I'm a pull some peeps in on), and the rising hate against Mexican Americans and Latinos, and even a few spanish words thrown in here and there and you know—I still don't know if the Democratic party can do a damn thing for this world. But I know that it was good to sit in a room with the Brown™, and to know we cared about many of the same things, and we were all talking about it and we were passionate, aware, vocal Latinos all together talking. That was the stuff. Unidad, you know? Remember? Unidad. That's what we need, vatos y mis vatas. There was, for that relatively short time, unity. It was very good. And everything else faded away.
Like me. Fading fast. I'm exhausted and its another big day tomorrow. Peace, hermanos y hermanas. Hasta mañana.

Great that all goes well in the important areas of the experience. Thanks for the news and I look forward to your successful Documentary in the near future.
Perhaps now you are also learning something about being in the press corps and the politics of that. Just pretend you are a younger, mas chulo version of Helen Thomas and then ask those tough questions.
Thanks again for being there for us.
And may the genies of technology assist you.

RC, thanks for your words and good wishes, my friend. And perhaps you are right and I wasn't being judicious and sensitive to context, but just lacking courage. If so, I hope I get some, too.

rc & Nez, you've raised an issue that every journalist has to deal with from time to time. When do you stop being polite? There is never an easy answer. And frankly, Kos' truthiful identity is not a matter of national security or even apparently of webosphere interest. Nez, maybe you can get a one on one interview with him. If he refuses, that refusal becomes a storyline in itself. But having done many a 'doorstep' (confronting an unsuspecting person with evidence, hard questions and a camera)confrontations are best conducted one on one.

It seems the gremlins are all over you. Of course you could always go downtown and get some more stuff in the huge Apple store, while been reminded that you payed a lot for that stuff in the first place. As for the interview, maybe you can get a one on one later, with Kos or with his supporters. I look forward to the final product. Good luck and enjoy.

Unidad, I can get with that. That's part of the grounding I thought about. Like-minded (not monolithic) people with faces and vocal inflections and passion you can shake hands with. Not turn off after they (it) give(s) you a headache. Glad things are going well so far, though you need coffee.

OK! I'm claiming dibs, if the same situation occurs next year, to be the equipment manager. I could use a couple of days off. And..I'd really like to see that way-cool-above-and-beyond ad you created. (with the current owners' permission of course!)
