Who Fired the Starting Gun While I Was Sleeping?

On Thursday, the Sentinel ran a big story, complete with several circle graphs, on how the area's racial balance is rapidly shifting.
Excuse me, I must have been in a coma or something, but when did humankind evolve into four races? I know it was a long time ago, but I'm sure when I was in high school and college there were only three races -- white, black and Asian. Now we have a fourth race: Hispanic. When did Hispanic become a race?

YEAH, MAN! Who the hell dares to make that damn clapping sound when I'm in a coma? Don't you know the construct of Race is only sensible when we exclude the Latin Americans and especially, specifically, the damn Indian race that keeps splintering off and melding with others and resurfacing and JUST WON'T DIE??? It's just UNAMERICAN for you all to be moving back into power! Keep it in mind! Humankind "evolved" into three Races for a reason!

Umm... So which sort of "asian" was a race? and which one only magically came into being a few decades ago, or what? I mean, because I thought it used to be white, yellow, brown and black, that's four races I think, unless my math is off.
And where do the jews and othere semitic peoples fit into that anyway? Or the aboriginal australians, or the australasians or...
I wish more white peepol could fucking count, or have an attention span longer than a... man I'm thirsty, wait a second...

Effects of prejudice based on multiple erroneous concepts of race are real in fact.
At least that's what all DNA studies say.

Actually, according to the racist anthropologists of the late 19th century and much of subsequent pop anthropology, there were 5 races, specifically the indigenous inhabitants of the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia/Micronesia.
Well, turns out there are five races. Four of them only live in Africa; the other lives in northern Africa and everywhere else, according to a worldwide sampling of mitochondrial evidence. Seriously, man. Look it up if you're so inclined. :)
