Chota Kill Woman in Wheelchair, and I'm Not Shocked.

SOMEONE HAS GOT TO TAKE those Tasers away from cops. It seems they just don't know how to use them. Now, granted: a person (in general) who makes it their career to be a weapon-wielding authority figure is bound to be operating with some issues. I'd venture a guess that one of them is feeling unsafe. And unprotected. And with some, outright scared of the world. But over the last few years, I've read of everything from mentally ill children being killed, to unruly kids in a library being tasered to the floor, to obnoxious colleged students being tasered, and now this. A 56 year old schizophrenic wheelchair-bound woman being tasered TEN TIMES until...she...is...dead. I'm not saying cops have an easy job (nor do schoolbus drivers tho, and we wouldn't let them zap kids), nor am I saying that our society doesn't benefit in some ways from a corrective/security force. But I am saying that these people are way too easy on the trigger, it's not getting any better, and it pisses me off.
A Clay County woman's family said it's seeking justice after their loved one died shortly after being shocked 10 times with Taser guns during a confrontation with police. The family of 56-year-old Emily Delafield said it would take the Green Cove Springs Police Department to court, according to a WJXT-TV report. [...]
In April 2006, officers with the police department said they were called to a disturbance at a home in the 400 block of Harrison Street just before 5 p.m. [...]
Officers said they arrived to find Delafield in a wheelchair, armed with two knives and a hammer. Police said the woman was swinging the weapons at family members and police.
Within an hour of her call to 911, Delafield, a wheelchair-bound woman documented to have mental illness, was dead.
Family attorney Rick Alexander said Delafield's death could have been prevented and that there are four things that jump out at him about the case.
'One, she's in a wheelchair. Two, she's schizophrenic. Three, they're using a Taser on a person that's in a wheelchair, and then four is that they tasered her 10 times for a period of like two minutes,' Alexander said. [...]
A medical examiner found Delafield died from hypertensive heart disease and cited the Taser gun shock as a contributing factor, the report said. On her death certificate, the medical examiner ruled Delafield's death a homicide."

Now this is just sad and ridiculous and disgusting. If you can't subdue a loud college student with a few cops, their bodies and sticks and other TRULY 'non-lethal' weapons; if you can't subdue a wheel-chair bound woman with a few cops using their brains—and without tasering her to death, you have no business carrying weapons, OR being an authority figure. And as judge and jury of your moral failings, I must provide a link to this. And I must bump it.
NEANDERTHALS, TAKE NOTE: Unleashing indiscriminate violence upon the world is not an answer to challenge from the People. Death is not the solution to scary mentally ill gente. Walls are not an answer to cultures that change. Bombs and occupations are not the answer to energy needs. Stop thinking and acting like barbarians, this is my world, too.

Doing this kind of thing at 'Gitmo' and getting away with it would, I predicted, make it all the more acceptable and common here. I tend to think that may even be a conscious motive behind all these torture centers abroad. Yet more policing lies ahead, I think on my less optimistic days.
