Stormy Tuesday
Categorized under | Tags:
OH YAY. The weather here is blinding white rainy skies and thunder. The incoming flight was just announced first in a holding pattern over Pennsylvania because of the weather, and just now they announced it was diverting to Pittsburgh to land.
Wait--they just now announced the incoming plane from Denver is still on the ground in Denver, and actually all planes coming in are delayed or diverted.
Headache wants me to blog about it, but I sort of resent that. Now I wish I actually did have a peach pie. I'm starving. I'm broke. People all around me are munching all obviouslike, as if they don't know they are taunting me.
Okay, day so far has not become more surreal. But definitely not the kind of reality I personally was hoping for!
I really had to work hard to put that exclamation point on there. And now I've gone and ruined it.

May you enjoy being back home and may the work you did on the trip turn out to be like ripples of new energy invading the Bloglandia.

Gawd, I hate when people eat around you and your the only one not eating. It either makes you hungry, especially if you tell somebody your not hungry, or it makes feel like you are starving to death because of all the different food smells around you.

Hehe, well if it makes you feel any better, I have a pretty good headache today too, and no piercing airport alarm was required to trigger it! Great time last night, though. Hang in there, bro.

Hee, there's no such thing as having too much fun. Too much headache? Yes. Oof. Be well, Nezua; I hope you make it home in the very near future healthy and safe.

Travel horror stories; now there's a topic I shouldn't open...I bet we all have these!
How about the this summer when I messed up time changes (dohhh) and missed my plane from San Diego to Chicago. Oops. Mi hermana was not amused at the thought of a 4 a.m. pick-up vs. an 11 p.m. one. "Don't worry, I say. I'll take the train and I'll meet you further south on the train line."
So, there I was, all Tijuana sunburned. I mean really ouch-factor sunburned -- fresh from el sol's joke on la gringa. I'm dragging this stupid big suitcase through the airport at 4 a.m. -- after a long night of sitting in crammed too tight economy flight seat, impossible for sleeping. I'm trying to find the right El to catch. After that ride, I'm walking down Michigan Ave. at 5 a.m., still dragging said bag. It's me, some of the diehard street people, and the psychotic wealthy fitness nuts who live near the lake. Other than that the normally-busy road is dead.
"Where's the damn Metra train stop? -- Oops I missed it, seven blocks back."
So, I catch that; and wait at some Dunkin Donuts at the end of the line(I think my rank self may have scared all those early risers in the 'burbs.)
But guess what, the sis goes to the wrong Dunkin Donuts in the wrong town. After about an hour, I'm getting a little concerned. Hmmm, AND my cellphone battery is dead. I walk a few blocks, looking for a payphone. It's about 8 a.m. by now. But, see I only find these empty phone sockets where payphones used to be installed. So, I have to wait around for her to figure out which town I'm really in.
She finally does. -- And when I get home to pass out, I've been dealing with planes and trains for about 12 hours!

I was a traveling consultant for years, so I feel our host's pain when it comes to the hassles of air travel. Of course, since 9/11, it's much more time-consuming and difficult -- mi esposa let me do one more project after 9/11 and then she put her foot down and demanded I come off the road. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for frequent travelers today.
