I REMEMBER READING the old National Geographic magazines that my family carried around in boxes wherever we moved. These were old mags, from the 40s on. I remember those Coca-Cola ads, they said "The Pause That Refreshes." Those were the days, I guess, when advertising was a bit less "extreme." Anyway, here's a little pause for a foto shoot of a bottle of Mexican Coke. I don't drink the stuff, but it was fun to photograph. Hope you find it refreshing. Or something.

eh. Don't let me get into the politics of Coca-cola, Latinos, diabetes...
All that, that I didn't say, I would drink soda everyday if I let myself....and I gotta say, Mexican coca-cola is wayyyyyyyyy better than US-made stuff. Cos they use actual SUGAR not corn-syrup (elixir of the devil on so many levels). OKay- I said I wasn't going to get all politic-y rant-y.
I really like #5-- that just only barely there layer of frost- nice.

It is so strange how thirsty I am suddenly! And, Mexican coke tastes way better--I think it has cinnamon in it.
Did you hear former Coca-Cola exec Vicente Fox say in one of his book tour interviews that Mexicans drink too much Coke and other soda and should stop?

a funny phenomenon, eh glen? :)
i haven't heard vicente fox say it...but it's kind of said a lot that Mexicans in general drink too much soda. and that its because they have a hard time with the scarcity of potable water. watcha gonna do...

nez-- My Tia (who raised my mom and so she was more my abuela than my actual abuela ever was) suffered & died from diabetes too. I doubt there's a familia out there without a similar story.
hmmm, does this mean that V. Fox and I agree about something???? That's some scary stuff.

too bad coca cola had to murder their workers in south america or i'd still be drinking the stuff. too bad Che and Castro didn't suceed in stealing the recipe during the cuban revolution! (i read that somewhere and now cannot remember where)
and, wow! $4.00! didn't those caps used to say 5 cents!

If I'm going to drink a Coke, I'd rather have one from Mexico or else one of the Kosher-for-Passover ones; they're both made with cane sugar and IMO, more tasty.
