Oops! This post should be here instead of on Obama's lack of manners:

This is frustrating to say the least, many college students struggle to pay tuition that is very expensive but they do it.
While I do not want my son to join the military it is a personal choice for everyone, I would wish everyone would have the chance to go to college. It is bar none the most extravagant experience any 18-22 year can have.
You don't even have to go to a fancy college, just go to any Cal State for the life changing experience.
In either case, the establishment is stupid and short sighted to not educate the youth of America to create a smarter citizen that will revive and sustain our sluggish economy.
Why don't they get that? Or is it simple racism that clouds their thoughts?

The Dream Act failed to move forward in the U.S. Senate today, basically meaning it won't be addressed for at least another year. There's plenty on the mainstream news Web sites about it, if you want to read the details.

Basically, it was tailored to be a tiny, baby step in immigration reform -- allowing a pathway to legal residency for some children of undocumented immigrants.

I'm disappointed. But, I'm also disgusted and frightened at how quick the the right-wing racists latched onto this as some kind of battle cry. In the last 24 hours I've seen "news" items sent from lots of anti-immigrant groups in the form of press releases, Web site "news" articles and more. Having become very familiar with this legislation, I recognized a lot of their spin as totally twisting the reality of the proposal.

The Citizen Orange Web site has more about it -- the anti-migrant machine I think Kyle called it.

A well-oiled machine, indeed.
The hatefulness of these groups is frightening.

its' predictable by now. they see it as a culture war. they are now blind to their own souls, to being humane and giving others what you would want. everything is a WAR. drugs...radicalists....christmas marketing...migration. it's all WAR on something or over something or other. its heartbreaking that this is the life some live. so fine. fight the inevitable every moving tides of life. you won't stop change, only break yourself with hate and fear. become buried in the old day's death as the new one dawns.

thanks for the link fix mimi.

Every win empowers their hate and they become more and more blatant expressing their racist and fascist tendencies. Many of the nti migrant groups no longer even make a pretense of just being agains illegal immigration, to them it is a race war against latinos.

Everyone should read the latest report from ADL about the demonization of latinos.

Mariachi mama,

Thanks for that ADL link, very useful. Readers should note the names of the groups that ADL highlights as using hate group tactics.

Some of those organizations send news releases to the media, and make themselves readily available to reporters trying to provide balanced coverage. (I do believe to tell a fuller story, it is good to get multiple points of view, but extremists are not to be trusted).

I think those of us for humane immigration reform need to speak up during interviews, adn tell reporters and legislators about these groups, about the ADL report -- to inform them their sources might not be on the level.

kick it, ése.
