Terrorist Attack on Mexican Consulate in NYC

Categorized under Violencia | Tags: , , ,

OF COURSE it isn't being billed as such. More like...the interesting finding of some archaic and nonthreatening grenade-like "remnants" in the midst of what seems to be the aftermath of "at least one explosion." Dig the title of the article. "NYC Police Probe Explosion at Mexico's Consulate; Devices Found". Oh, we're masters of a calming stance and the passive voice when it suits us, oh yes!

Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) -- New York police are investigating the remnants of two grenade-like devices after at least one explosion blew out panes of glass at Mexico's consulate in Manhattan.

The devices were hand grenades used for training that had been hollowed out and filled with powder, said Paul Browne, deputy commissioner of the New York Police Department, in a telephone interview. One explosion, and possibly two, occurred sometime after 3 a.m. New York time, police said. The consulate is in a stand-alone building at 27 East 39th Street between Park and Madison avenues.

The attack was similar to one against the British consulate in New York City in May 2005, Browne said. In that case, the explosives blew an hourglass-shaped hole in a glass panel between two revolving doors, police said at the time.

One of the devices used in today's attack was smooth and oval, the other a typical World War II-like "pineapple grenade," Browne said.

No one was injured and the only damage was to the façade of the building, said Ricardo Alday, a spokesman for the Mexican Embassy in Washington.

Nothing to see here. They might have only been "training" type grenades anyway. Smoooth, and oval. How scary is that? Reminiscent of a sexy hourglass shape in revolving doors, these were yummy grenades, pineappley. And ancient. Nah, far from being a scary terrorific incident, no one was even injured! Only the "facade" of a building was hurt. And let's be real: who needs facades, anyway?

After the fruity bang-bang, a bystander even reported tasting a "papaya-like" swirl of anti-Mexican fallout, but certainly nothing to be alarmed about—or that might break the GOP's fantazmik record of Preventing Terrorist Attacks on American Soil.

I couldn't believe it when my hardresser's husband (Miguel) told me what he'd hear on AM radio here in Chicago. We never got a whiff of it on mainstream media. Scary.
Animo, y gracias por el blog.
