The first thing I noticed about the NYT article, was its lack of reporting on the effect it had on the people. We learned a lot about the relative importance of the people versus the copper mines in Chile based on the emphasis of the NYT....BUT...It was not until I saw the BBC report http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7094999.stm
that I was once again reminded who the NYT really represents.

Only if you believe that human loss is merely collateral and of secondary importance to the health and profit of international corporations, in peace or in war. I suppose you can credit the NYT for reporting what is important to their readers and assuming that they, their readers, are vested in copper futures.
Next, enter preacher; who will share his revelation that the copper industry must be blessed by God while those wretches who had their lives and homes destroyed deserved what they got. Copper prices will go up on the NYSE.

Latest reports show thousands left homeless by the earthquake. Its frustrating that you simply can not scoop them up and solve their problems with a wave of the hand. No matter how much you may want that to happen.
