General Busharraf

Categorized under Política Estados Unidos | Tags: , ,

imgA Bush administration official who works on Pakistan issues acknowledged that with the United States having already invested so much in General Musharraf, there was little Washington could do in response to the Pakistani president’s actions that did not have the potential to undermine American goals. [...]

A senior administration official said the administration began to hear warnings from Pakistani officials about the possibility of an emergency declaration a week ago. That prompted a frantic and unsuccessful effort by administration officials — though not Mr. Bush himself — to persuade General Musharraf’s government not to go ahead with its plan.

Bush ... Signals No Penalty

I MEAN...we don't expect Bush, underneath whatever he has to say for appearances, to disapprove? He is the frustrated Dictator, remember? Musharraf is doing in bold relief what Bush only skulks about to achieve. Musharraf is probably Bush's hero right about now. I bet the failed oilman is laying sweaty on his sunbeam rug with a grin on his face, three TVs tuned to FOX News, and ten codpieces arranged in a divine circle around his head.

On a related note, I found it hysterical recently when PotCondi denounced KettlePakistan:

The U.S. has made clear that it does not support extra-constitutional measures, because those measures would take Pakistan away from the path of democracy and civilian rule," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told reporters Saturday while traveling from Turkey to Israel. "And whatever happens, we will be urging a quick return to the path of constitutional rule and constitutional order. . . . —Musharraf declares state of emergency in Pakistan

How very rich. O, the manufactured and utterly hypocritical outrage. Snore.
