You have never looked more lovely! :)
Happy Day of the Dead to you, too, Nezua. Am saluting my mother, father, and a few friends who left this earth too soon.

Dude I've always loved the Day of the Dead...ya know, people in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition also celebrate the dead with skull imagery, so there's a seldom-recognized Mexican-Tibetan connection! Hehe, I love sacred traditions that address death forthrightly, even playfully, which is central to my own Buddhist training...so Feliz Dia de los Muertos, Nezua, and everyone else who reads these words, and the whole teeming ocean of the souls of the dead!

First you bare your heart, and now you're baring your skull? This blog really does have everything! ;-p
Feliz Dia de los Muertos to everyone. I love today because today is the day not to forget those whom we've lost. In fact, today is the day to argue we haven't lost them at all; they're always in reach.

My family and I ate my dad's favorite chocolate at his gravesite today (we gave him some too). Next year we want to be more organized and have a picnic there. Which will probably get us kicked out cos it's like the most sanitized, uptight cemetery ever. You're not even allowed to bring potted plants so I just brought some cut chrysanthemums, which will be cleared away by dusk. No fun with death. In fact, I don't know anyone else in my dad's family who even goes there - and there have been a lot of deaths in the family recently- at all, except my bro, me, and our mami. Thank god for my Mami. There'se something to be said for dealing up front with death.

....as long as you remember them they can be powerful allies and sources of strength. Once forgotten, you're truly alone. I certainly appreciate the help and am continually surprised with unexpected, and un-earned, benefits of their aid. That's the only way I can explain it. It goes with that chill in the back of my neck and the chill continues to run down my spine.

Amig@s y com/padres, light a candle or say a prayer
for the tabasceños who are drowning tonight. The flooding in Mexico is unprecedented and as many as 700,000 are homeless. Tens of thousands are on their roofs, awaiting rescue. 80% of the state of tabasco in under water.
Also for our brothers and sisters in the path fo TS Noel, another killer.
