BREAKING: Self-Obsessed Junkie Looks Out Window!!!
Categorized under Medios | Tags: NIN
I'M KIDDING TRENT, he knows this! But clearly he misplaced his smack and mainlined a bag of social conscience, getting his synth on thenceforth. Here's a new jammie that "The Art of Mental Warfare" (s/t C&L) put to Trent's new song Warning. (Funny how the A.o.M.W. post talks down about our "celebrity-obsessed" culture...with a huge pic of dylan on the sidebar.) Not the usual high end video here for NIN (um, lame?) but the song is quite tight, guvna. Quite groovalish.
I was a huge NIN fan for years. Huge. He was to me at 21 or 22 or so what Black Sabbath was to me at 15. (As everyone here immediately remembers how much I enjoyed Sabbath at 15, this seems a reasonable yardstick to use.) I have a stack of NIN CDs—imports and remixes as well as originals—a foot high. And I do love this song. But let me be honest and say that Trent Reznor is just not social conscience music, it's NOT! Stop it! Go back to mourning your breakup of 1989 and talking about how shorn of human dignity you are, bro. You may as well have snorted antimatter before you recorded this. You're messing with our reality! I mean Trent lecturing on apathy??? That's sort of like Eminem telling us not to curse.

Dude it's a little early in the morning for me to be hitting the NIN sauce!
(Though I will admit, I was pretty into them back in the day. I considered Downward Spiral the best overall major release that year, studied it, compared imports and remixes. Went to see their extravaganza at Madison Square Garden, I'll never forget the howling roar that engulfed the place when the massive white curtain unhooked at the ceiling and a giant waterfall of flashing fluttering rippling fabric came cascading down in front of the stage to reveal the tormented musicians thrashing their greasy black hair. My ticket was in the mosh pit, and it was a great pit, one where nobody got hurt and people helped each other to their feet if anybody went down. Trent ended up destroying all the musical equipment on stage in a white-eyed slack-jawed rampage that seemed to even frighten his bandmates. What a spectacle. But anyway yeah, I think it's too early for me to hit the NIN, bro! Maybe I'll warm up with some green tea and Norah Jones, work my way up the aggro-meter kinda gradually...or is socially conscious NIN a whole new trip? Hmmm...)

what a great accounting, man. love that story.
not a different animal. same ole trent. which is why it sort of makes me laugh to see him trying out the social conscience thing, the "anti-apathy" gig.

As a young blood, I have to say that Trent is pretty hot when he gives a shit. Leave him 'lone! ;)
I mean, some heavy craziness has to go down when Trent Reznor is telling people to care. He's the same guy who says in I Do Not Want This
Of course, I'm waiting for my turn at the third line.

Nez, I love that song, Piggy. Personally I projected some crazy anti-capitalist feelings onto that one, turned it in my head into an extreme sequel to George Harrison's white album satire... ;-)
Maybe Trent was discussing political empathy when he wrote,
Or could it have something or other to do with the splendidly overambitious promise M is waiting on? See, Nez, this isn't the first time dude's opened a window...
Though who could forget:
Ouch.

And don't forget the prophetic and apocalyptic verses of The Day The Whole World Went Away:
When you link up Piggy and March of the Pigs, you get a wonderful message.

Nez, my wayward eldest daughter got to meet Trent and his wife and spend a few days at his house this summer. He just picked her gutter punk ass off the Venice boardwalk and took her home.
She said he was nice but kind of geeky.
I mean, not to make you jealous or anything ;)
