45 People Killed in Algiers Car Bombing

Categorized under Violencia | Tags: , ,

THE ELEVENTH sure seems to be the day for bombing. It was not only the day the Towers were demolished in Manhattan, it was also the day General Pinochet launched his coup against the Chilean government in '73.

"Suspicions quickly focused on"...Those darn suspicions! Always focusing themselves. I hope they focus themselves on the right people and soon. Terrible.

Once again: Democracy will be promoted and ballyhooed as long as those in power can control the outcomes.
"Algeria has been battling Islamic insurgents since the early 1990s, when the army canceled the second round of the country's first multiparty elections, stepping in to prevent likely victory by an Islamic fundamentalist party."

That simple statement sure beings back memories of the 50's when the final unifying election of N and S Vietnam was cancelled because we knew that Ho Chi Minh would win in a landslide..........and of Iraq when the Coalition Provisional Authority, in its last day of authority, signed into law that when elections were to be held, the US reserved the right to veto any candidates. And then our political leaders wonder why the government of Iraq is not accepted as being legitimate by its own people.

Those damned insurgents...They can be so picky, picky, picky.

What is even more or perhaps most disturbing is the fact that the the Chilean coup happened on September 11th

It kinda makes a 9/11 conspiracy conceivable, considering that the US was involved in the Chilean coup. The dates are just too coincidental

I hate those 9/11 conspiracy people. The last ones I met were completely anti-immigrant which sort of cemented my feelings that many times neo-nazis are at the top of these 'conspiracy' theories. Which is why they always end up saying "the jews did it." What do they think that three people are the root of the problem? I guess they then never have to recogize the larger historical, structural inequalities. Isn't the problem much more systematic?? anyways.

I remember when I saw the "Battle of Algiers." It was in an Ethnic Studies class and my professor had us watch the part where the female suicide bomber walked into a cafe to blow herself up. We watched as the women, who had been living under horrifically oppressive colonial rule (and now neo-colonial rule) by the French make eye contact with this little blond French child sipping a cola in the cafe. The professor asked who I sympothized with. both of them.
