Code Switching for the Masses

img THE USA'S selective loathing of foreign elements has always disturbed me. Almost 100% of our products are made elsewhere, (even the traditionally AMERICAN products, hola Chrysler users!), massive corporations join hands with no regard to politics or who our "enemy" is on any given day, and then here on the mundane stage, the one where the politicans speak in language they know has nothing to do with national economic physical or political reality but is fashioned only for the idiot mob and our earthy impulses, we hear the hate.

It's a joke. And the joke is on you and me. So I hope you're laughing!

And regarding US politics, really, now. Is there anything left to say until we begin prosecute this administration? Nope. Nothing. Not a thing of value.

While this may be news to a few people, the decision to ignore the border and the enemy concept by the multi-national corporations is very old.
Indeed, multinational corporations from Europe financed the US Revolution against English Tax controls from 1760 until 1800.
The wealthy and the wealthy corporations do not waste time or energy subscribing to the archaic concepts of borders, nationality, patriotism and similar outlooks.
Despite what may be very unethical activities in many areas of their operations
{examine the Opium Wars for instance!} the oppressive belief systems related to accidents of birth {religion and geographic chauvinism} enslave humans, but not wealthy humans.
Liberate yourself from mental slavery! said Brother Bob.
The corporations may actually know some things we ought to pay attention to. And these are not new tricks they are trying out. Maybe just improved by modern capital markets and electronic speed of trade.
May I also point out here that there are plenty of blogs still made in the US: but I don't know why. The writers, who often work for ad revenue and reader donations, could be anywhere in the wonderful satellite world and operate in the same manner, and their donations would buy much more happiness {yes, Virginia, some forms of happiness can be bought} for exactly the same efforts.
Or at least this will be true if the dollar does not fall too fast.
Perhaps bloggers should take note: Solicit your donations in Euros, Yuan and maybe even Dominican Pesos and Canadian Loonies, all valuable currencies at present.
I was raised by an international financier. I read international finance magazines addressed to my father since around 1958. My outlook about everything was shaped more by that reality than anything else.
The nation game is over, but the citizens haven't been notified yet.

if only more people understood as much about borders/corporations as you, amigo. sadly i do think it is new news to many. not, perhaps, this group here. but i do always write as if someone new is finding me that day, as well. you never know who you can help with one thought. you've helped me with a few.

I can't wait to read you and Richard together. The gig would scare me. I would have to be thinking: Hmmm, if I say this now, this little punditry of the week, what will happen if it turns out to be jive-ola two years from now?
On the other hand, paying attention to the extremely long arc of human history as much as one can tends to limit those blathery screw-ups.
I actually sell {rudimentary and personally very familiar} advice on a daily basis, but I do try to avoid predictions. They tend to bite you when you turn your back. I do have to live with a certain amount of soothsaying as does everyone who has any sense at all. All of us have to figure out to some degree what is the probable event awaiting us around the next bend. Yet, we also have to be prepared for the unexpected and unintended.
When the latest stupid US war started I sold all my 8 cylinder vehicles. That seemed like a sure bet as I imagined gas doubling. I was wrong, it has tripled and is going higher.
With the advent of the Web and the Net, and now with the global spread of a Net culture, the next step is for citizens to join together OUTSIDE any government channel and come up with the new Magna Carta. The WWW Carta. And we will not have to present it to anyone to sign, no. We will just accept it and live it. Vote out any entities that don't get it. Shame others, and so on.
But first, some years of discussion and agreement must take place.
Let's get started.

it never hurts to make a concerted effort
to understand the impotence that the empire
is suffering and its mean spirited attempt
to reign in free thought and especially
democracy.

that is one of their tools, to silence discourse, use
secrecy all in the name of executive privilege during tmes
of fake wars. we are informed
peasants. red flag, red flag. to keep us from
sharing ideas is their power.

The only -- the only -- moral dimension of nationhood is that it gives a means to determine one's immediate responsibilities to one's neighbors. In other words, you know who you're supposed to be nice to.

Corps are anathema to patriotism -- at least as we have defined them (as profit-making machines). I remember Jim Hightower describing a scene where in a stockholder's meeting for a multinational corporation based in the U.S., the executives -- after consulting their lawyers on site -- refused to simply salute the U.S. flag that was with them on stage.

I assigned this little reading to my Intro Sociology classes this semester. You'd be surprised (or not?) how many of them were insulted by it and called it "anti-American."

kick it, ése.
