WELL, IT LOOKS LIKE yours truly may be soon writing a weekly column in the Mexican newspaper [edited, maybe better to keep unnamed until finalized?]! Or "half" of it. It's a "head to head" type of thing, tho that sounds more confrontational than it actually is. It's more of a "on this hand, and then on the other," I guess.
The deal is not done yet, but the pitch is being made, and I am told that the paper peeps are mucho contento with the idea! So we'll see how it shapes up. As I said, it's going to be a two-part column, featuring two opinions (O, the Mexican theme of duality shows itself again!) One would be written by a friend (you may know him as Richard, el gúero en México) and would be the "gringo in Mexico" view. The other, written by me, would be, por supuesto, the Xicano en el EEUU! (Yeh, that's me, the Mexican American in the USA). So Richard and I would do some agreeing and some disagreeing, and come from our often very different viewpoints. Which we do well naturally anyway. Shoot, me and Richard been mixing it up since the days he was trying to tell me there is no such thing as race! (Oh, we both agree, but of course, we come from different lived experiences, and so we came at the idea differently. I think, since, we've come to understand each other's point just fine).
So. Does this mean I will be an official pundit? I'd be getting feria to spit estas palabras, so I think so! Interesante. Y peligroso!
