What do Bush, YouTube, and Egypt have in common?
Categorized under | Tags: bush, Censorship, CNN, Support the Truth, Torture, YouTube
YouTube, not the Egyptian government, has suspended anti-torture activist and blogger Wael Abbas from posting videos of state-sanctioned abuses in his home country for the world to see.
"It's the first time that people saw something like that," says Abbas. "They saw that people are really in pain and agony, and being tortured, and being beaten, and being sodomized. And it was a shock to the Egyptian people."
Says CNN, the Egyptian government is "slowly responding" to the attention brought to abuses of citizens, and Abbas' video footage helped bring to justice two officers in the torture of one 21-year-old man.
Says Abbas of YouTube's suspension of his account:
"With what they are doing now, they are helping tyrants, they are helping torturers, they are helping dictatorships. This is not really helping people who are fighting for democracy in 3rd world countries. We thought that YouTube was our ally; it helped show the truth in countries like Burma, but with what they did now, it doesn't seem like that anymore."

Whoo-hoo! Way to suck the dick of the Man, YouTube!
This is soooo lame. If I'm going to get evil corporations, I want the whole nine yards! Gigantic buildings, 80's retropunk hairstyle, mercs everywhere (not mercenaries, _mercs_) getting jobs from Mr. Johnson. . . and orcs! Orcs and magic! I want Shadowrun, dammit! If governments are torturing people with corporate smokescreens I want the rest of the damn package! Give me cyberpunk you elitist assholes! At least then the downfall of Western Civilization will be stylish.
Ok, I'll stop now.

A gamer, eh? Wohooo! Yeah, but the Mercs are already here, Blackwater and the like, the bots are already here, Hellfire armed Predators drones and then some. More like Cyberpunk 2020 than Shadowrun, but at least they have the retro 80's look pat down. You want to see real magic, wait until the Pentagon resurrects John Wayne and Ronald Reagan into the body of Super Uncle Sam (with the appropriate overdose of steroids and cybernetics).

If YouTube continues to carry water for corporations and abusive governments, other information outlets are likely to arise. For instance, it's easy enough to find South Park episodes online even though YouTube won't carry them.
Is that really the slogan YouTube wants associated with its brand?: "YouTube: Torture yes, dictatorships yes, free expression no."

Oh, yeah. Give us metahumans. Give us dragons. Give us the astral plane and the matrix. Give us cybereyes and muscle augmentation and encephalons. Give us a stylish, almost posthuman, end to western civilization.
Yeah, I kinda play Shadowrun too...
