Bill Clinton: Nobody But Media Cares About Racial Issues
Categorized under Race for '08 | Tags: Clinton
OKAY, I paraphrase! But that's his gist. The media is "determined to take this election away from [South Carolina]" when they focus on the racial dogwhistles such as the Clintons and/or their representatives/surrogate speakers love to toot. And the Clintonbrow wrinkles up sadly: "And that's not right. That's not right."
What a lawyer eh?
Way to press on, Bill! Way. To. Press. Onward to be half of the First Presidential Couple in America's History! You ambitious shrew!
Oh, before I forget. Here's a quote I found earlier about the man who won the first vote I ever cast.
I am also puzzled as to why poor people think Bill Clinton was good for them. Clinton's domestic agenda was first announced as a gigantic jobs-creation program coupled with a determined effort to guarantee health care for all. The truth is, his focus on eliminating the budget deficit meant he did very little for the poor and working people in America. While he was much better than Reagan or Bush, there was definitely room for improvement.Clinton's small gestures toward social democracy did not come close to what was needed in a nation where one-fourth of the children lived in poverty; where homeless people lived on the streets in every major city; where women could not look for work for lack of child care; where the air, the water were deteriorating dangerously.
More than being merely inadequate to the needs of America's millions of truly disadvantaged citizens, the Clinton administration actually attacked the disproportionately non-white poor in numerous interrelated ways. Clinton signed a punitive welfare reform bill that ended the federal government's guarantee of financial help to impoverished families with dependent children. He also scored points with conservatives by taking welfare benefits away from legal as well as illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, Clinton increased economic insecurity in poor and working-class American communities by signing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). NAFTA destroyed tens of thousands of American industrial jobs by tearing down long-established regulatory barriers to the movement of corporate capital and commodities across the US-Mexican border.

"racial dogwhistles" -- love it. i dunno what it is we like(d) about Bill. i guess he's got that same appeal for the Left that W. has/had for the Right. he's seemingly someone you'd wanna go drink beers and pick up women with...then round the night out at Denny's or with some drive-thru tacos. but yes many of his policies were CRAP for us. i've been told that his Admin also instituted the '3 strikes and you're out' of Public Housing rule which criminalizes poor families.
he seemed genuinely hurt that the racist hats are being flung at the Billary heads. what did he say..."Ask Dolores Huerta, B@$#%ES!" haha. meaning i guess: This brown person can vouch for me.
Seemed like a typical defensive whiteguy reaction.

he is stupid not to realize that obama's run itself is monumental in this land. and that the old bill clinton image would have been proud of such a thing. "the first black president" and all that. so...you feel like why is the "first black president" attacking what could be the First Black President? it's a question bill didn't foresee arising from the dust clouds of his co-run for the Presidency. and the new light into his apparent hostility to the possibility of such a potentially historic happening immediately dispels bill clinton's "blackness" it seems.

It was NAFTA for me that made me stop and say..."What the hell party did he say he represented!?" I suppose the impeachment hearings were an epiphany. He now has the balls, available to re-dedicate to the press, to lecture them on the inherent differences between right and wrong.

It's really hard to overemphasize NAFTA; it is the best example of Clinton's failure. Sure, he'll screw over brown people in a pinch, but the clusterfuck that is NAFTA goes beyond undermining his "first black president" status (what an amazingly stupid phrase, btw -- I've cringed for a decade whenever I've heard it). NAFTA created the current rates of illegal immigration by dragging Mexico into deep, crushing poverty by causing job flight from Mexico (yep, it wasn't just us). Thus, the Republican party gained three huge advantages: 1) cheap labor at the expense of native and incoming workers' quality of life, 2) the ability to rail against latinos that have two choices: come to the U.S. or watch their families starve, and 3) the bigot platform allowed by #2. Clinton helped Bush win. (Gore failed here, too: he backed NAFTA and even lied about the program when debating Perot's half-asleep would-be VP. The media didn't care much about those lies, of course. Instead, they invented lies to smear him with that had nothing to do with economics, but I digress.)
The key point: every aspect of NAFTA's impact was not only predictable, but was predicted by economists. Clinton's White House economists claimed otherwise, but cannily refused to write papers supporting such claims in mainstream economic literature. They knew what they were doing.
NAFTA, even more than gutting welfare, makes it clear that when it comes to race issues, Bill is a dick.

Bill Clinton just brought the same disaster capitalism with him that were SOP during the Raygun/Boosh I era. Hillary Clinton will simply keep on keepin' on with the program. The Clintons are only good for the Clintons and their respective cronies. Nothing more, nothing less.
