Mix it up

Categorized under Cultura | Tags: , ,

I'M A MEXICAN Romanian Jewish German American who was raised (moving from state to state) in a faith based on Eastern (India) philosophies, born in Los Angeles but who has a slight new york accent, who grew up immersed and in love with hip-hop, breakdancing, and many elements of black culture, yet in the home of a white Irish (racist) Lapsed-Catholic (who played Bob Marley every day).

No wonder I don't really feel bound to or owned by any particular paradigm!

We have so little in common, and yet such a similar outlook. As you once said to me, que viva la raza cosmica! :)

But we both like Bob Marley, and I'm pretty sure that's a good start. Maybe you would indulge me by putting "Redemption Song" on?

I just had to repeat that, because it is my new favorite sentence.

[love,
the product of Scots highlanders (probably blue) turned politely Episcopalian who fell in love with 2nd generation Jewish escapees from Russian pogroms turned not so politely atheist, with high points all over the east coast including raising some babies who grew up in a place where Khmer and Spanish and Japanese were as likely as English, and where under all the thousand histories playing out in one place, a soundtrack of Bob Marley was playing all day.]

Okay, wait. How the hell did you do that in five lines? : )

Heh. Mixed up like me, a little bit of everything, living a bit of everywhere, including outside of the country. Shaken and stirred, that's the way it goes...

Paradigms are for the unimaginative. I haven't fit into any paradigms since I realized what the hell the word "paradigm" meant!

Now if they would just stop telling me "But I never think of you as a Chicana!" *stabbity stab*
