My Morality, Your Body, Our Plates.
Categorized under Política Estados Unidos | Tags: hype, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice
I GUESS I just don't get it. Firstly, If women are against abortions...can't they just not have one? It seems to be something like those against gay marriage. Don't marry someone of your own sex if the idea repulses you.
And really, what good is it doing to anyone if you sticker up license plates with your team's slogan? I worry that people will try to squint and read that little message and crash into something. I hate to think of one more dead motorist because of some silly license plate decoration. I'm pro-life and pro-choice, you see.

The anti-choice movement is not about finding abortion morally wrong, or even about being viscerally repulsed by the idea of abortion. It's about control of women's bodies. Women have carved legitimate places for ourselves throughout the public sphere: in universities and workplaces and courthouses and anywhere else you can think of. It's no longer acceptable to force women out of these places, so the anti-choice and anti-reproductive justice crowd has moved on to making it difficult for us to access these spaces, by insuring that women, and mostly poor women at that, are ignorant about reproductive choices. Same old story, new words to tell it with.

Got it in one, Capsicum. That's why the movers and shakers in the anti-abortion movement are against birth control as well. They simply hate emancipated women. There are anti-abortion people who want to fund birth control and adoption programs to reduce abortion rates -- you'll never see those folks on television. Ever.

On a bright note, Arizona courts upheld the "free speech" aspect. It almost makes me want to get an Arizona plate. I wonder how they would react to "Tu Madre" on a few thousand plates?

I want one of those plates and a permanent marker so it will say, "choose life, women's lives!"
I don't like when m uses those big college words like deciseration. I think she's a showoff.

Most anti-choice lead figures are men who will never have to make the choice. Talk about control freaks...
As someone who has had a couple abortions (and certainly does not feel they are something to be ashamed about--just lack of planning), I would agree that these anti-choice freaks are against birth control as well. You'd think if they are sooo concerned about human life, they'd be concerned with the Iraqi children being bombed or the militaration of the US-Mexican Border. Strangely, they are usually the pro-war, pro-border patrol crowd as well.
Maybe if women were more unapologetic about abortion we'd have a stronger choice movement. There is all this "Well, I was having a hard time, let me rationalize and justify my decision to the crowd of people looking down on me..." Not that that is not true but I don't feel I should have to justify my decisions to anyone. Like it is some deep dark secret. It's my body and I'll do what whatever the fuck I want with it. If I want to get a tattoo on my face, if I want to get a mole removed, if I want to get a bundle of cells removed from my uterus, it is no one's damn business but my own. If I feel like sharing it I will.
