Have you noticed that when people of color speak their truth lately, and display any anger at being dismissed or marginalized in the first place, the white person being addressed *cough* Gloria Steinem on Democracy Now *cough* responds/says,"I only want that we should all remember our humanity." What the hell??

but, but, but - we should be demanding that they debate something substantive!!!!

What that "unity" loosely translates too is, "Blacks, gays, Latinos, any of you 'others', just fall in line and do as we say because if you don't then the scary Republicans are gonna be mean!". Those people are scared of their own shadows. Some GOP freak on TV saying bad things about them is probably the only time they'll feel put upon.

Things that will not be discussed: (meaningfully)

Decreased spending for the military or its suppliers. (I refuse to call it a Defense Budget)

Immigration legislation.

Not for profit medical care.

War Crimes prosecutions. (Impeachment is a subset)

Repeal of the Patriot Act.

Re-affirmation of the Bill of Rights.

Doctor assisted suicide.

Getting the US educational system back into the top 25 in the world.
(subset...Whether Cuba has a better educational system than the US.)

Why Israel is allowed to disregard all the UN resolutions pertaining to their behavior.

Why administrative signing statements have precedence over laws enacted by Congress.

Like has been said numerous times, unfortunately, the liberal left's position is always the liberal white left's position, so often our issues get ignored. Then we're considered more left than left. What a mess ...

I paid good money into the fund for challenging the election back in '04, and I'm still waiting for a refund from that big damp suib of a let down.

well to be fair, the pinky beige "white" skin tone has been medically proven to be the only totally inaudible skin tone - in contrast to all the non-white skin tones of course, which actually produce so much noise that they end up drowning what ever people with non-white skin tones are saying. This means that white people, who, of course, are unused to having to filter the noise from a loud skin tone out to have day to day conversations, and so haven't gotten the knack of listening with "non-white ears", which is why they have such troubles hearing what non-white people are saying.

At least, I assume that's what's going on.

Con respeto to Carmen and Fabooj, I've got no quarrel with anyone's truth, gay, brown, cosmic traveler or otherwise. I *want* to hear that truth. I *want* to understand the points that you want to make. And I'm not about telling people to pipe down, except maybe for the occasional troll that happens by Nezua's place.

But I do concede Jose's point -- there are a lot of people (who share my skin color) who don't want to hear about or be bothered with the issues of certain groups on the left. I think it's bullshit how some on the left are only too willing to throw gays, atheists, Hispanics and others under the bus in the name of Advancing the Democratic Party.

Well, fuck them. The Party's got no rights, the way I read the Constitution. We do, as individuals, but not the Party. If the Party doesn't want to help secure and guarantee the rights of ALL of us, then I don't see where I owe it any debt, financial, moral or otherwise
